I took LA hns last year and got a bad grade and i wanna switch down to normal LA this year… does this look bad on my resume?

What does LA hns mean?

Assuming you mean you are going from an honors class to a lower level class, yes that looks bad.

LA hns = Language Arts Honors, aka Honors English which is above college prep English but not as advanced as AP English.

It is better to get an A in college prep English than a C in Honors English.

You should put some thought to the reasons for the bad grade.

If you were just slacking off, changing your study habits would make a difference and you could be fine in honors LA.

If you had a lunatic evil teacher, then you might be fine in honors LA this year provided you have a teacher who isn’t an evil lunatic.

If you couldn’t keep up the pace because you have a specific learning disability, then you need to work with the teacher, your counselor, and the school psychologist to develop an over-all plan for dealing with your disability in classroom situations.

actually um wat if i had a B but it was a low B which i had to fight for the whole year? wuld it be better to take HNS or drop down?

happymomof1 gives some great things to consider. Why were you fighting for that grade? Be honest with yourself and you will have a much clearer picture. If you have not, consult your GC. They may give you advise on what you can expect this year. If you are going from your Jr to Sr year, you are taking a different class. English Comp vs. English Literature. Something to keep in mind.

Good advice given so far OP. Also, if you could refrain from “text” speech on public fora, it’s considered better manners. Fora are for the exchange of ideas/information/advice. Making it easiers for others to read, others who may share your same dilemma – is considered good posting manners. Good luck to you on your choice.

Keep in mind – much of the College AdCom reaction is based upon your HS Counselors reaction – Your Counselor for many schools must check a box if you are taking the most rigorous schedule, etc. in context of your classmates. If taking the lower English will not change the “box” the Counselor will check then do what you want.

Also – what grade you are in will have an impact as well.

You don’t want a “cake” senior year schedule as the Ad Coms will think you are coasting by, but you also want a schedule which leaves enough time to complete college apps.

What do you plan to major in? If you are a science person and your schedule is loaded with multiple science/math classes on higher level, taking a step down in English won’t be a large focus.

It depends on what you’re aiming for. If you’re taking the easiest of 3 levels in a core subject, you can’t also aim for top colleges.
