We’ve been having issues with our phone, cable & internet provider for a few months but have sucked it up since D2 is in the middle of college app season & everyone has her email address with the current provider. It has hit the fan and gone to a level that would be comical if I wasn’t so angry & we have to switch.

Has anyone had to switch email addresses in the middle of app season? I know when we switched a few years ago, we were able to access the old email address for close to a year, but I wanted to hear if anyone had any experience lately. I figure at worst, D2 can get in touch with the adcoms at her schools.

Although our college app days are long gone, we did recently switch ISPs. One thing we learned is to find out - definitively - how long you’ll have access to your old e-mail once you’ve switched, or is there is some way to arrange to have that access beforehand. We had been told by the installer that we could run both concurrently, but discovered that we couldn’t when our original ISP cut out.

As a result, we did switch to e-mail accounts that are separate from those provided by the ISP. And for important accounts, e.g., banks, etc., we used free mail forwarding from our respective alma maters to ensure continuous communication.

If your ISP is ATT then you are fine. I switched from ATT a few years back, and were were able to keep our ATT email address, which were also a combo of ATT and Yahoo. At least, that is the way it was in 2010.
