I’m completing my B.S. in Biomedical Engineering in May. I’ve been accepted to RPI, Northwestern, SUNY Buffalo, and NYU for my M.S. in Biomedical Engineering as well as my PhD at Northeastern in Biomedical Engineering.

My issue is that I’ve found a new love for programming, and I’m worried that with a BME graduate degree I’ll find myself in a job that has little to no programming involved. On top of that, job outlook for graduates with BME degrees is poor (biomedical engineering companies generally hire ME/CSE/EE instead of BME because they have a defined skill set).

I have a lot of programming experience in C/C++/Python/LabVIEW/MATLAB but I’m worried that my knowledge on data structures and OOP is going to put me way behind the bar of other students.

Should I get my M.S. in BME and risk doing work that I don’t love? Or should I wait a year after graduation and apply to CSE programs and pray that I get in and if I get in that I’ll be able to meet the standards? Thanks.
