Switching from engineering sciences to premed

I had previously emailed the SD admissions office about switching majors and such…but they said that they had no time to answer my email because they were busy with acceptance/rejection letters… But here’s a copy of my email:

To whom this may concern,

I was recently admitted to, as an undergrad, UCSD’s Jacobs School of Engineering under Engineering Sciences as my major. However, after reconsideration, I’d like to transfer out of this into pre-med before fall 2006 school session begins (so that I will start off in pre-med). I am a bit unsure of how I should go about this and I have a few questions about pre-med. Is pre-med even offered to incoming undergrads? If so, is it possible for me to transfer to pre-med during my first quarter of attending? Are there any requirements (such as taking certain units of chem, bio or approval from certain departments…) before I’m even considered under pre-med major? Also, in all six campuses, which one has better science courses for a path to pre-med?

Thank you.

If anyone can answer my questions, please do; all replies will be appreciated.

ok first of, there no such thing as a pre-med. pre-med is a course of study within a major. You can be a music major but take the premed classes and you’ll still be a premed. It really doesnt matter what your major is. I am a premed in UCSD’s bioengineering program. My friend is a premed as an electrical engineering major. If you want to be a premed, just take the premed classes.

Regardless of wether you’re premed in Revelle or Warren, you’ll need to take chem 6a/b/c and chem 140a/b/c…and likely, regardless of your college, you’ll sign up for the same lectures.

The only things that are really unique to the specific colleges are:
-The writing courses (warren writing, cat, hum, mmw, etc)
-The housing and food

There’s no Revelle Bio or Muir Bio…it’s bio and students from all colleges take it. Extend this to all the other subjects (mae, chem, phys, math, etc etc etc).

Switching out of engineering simply requires a change of major form. That said, you can complete the premed requirements without dropping the major…it’s simply a set of added courses that one takes as a preparaton for med school.
