My phone was acting up and I needed a new one. Since everyone else in my family is firmly entrenched into the Apple universe, I relented. Plus I’m not a tech guy, so simple is probably better for me anyway. There used to be several reasons I didn’t want to switch, but android has taken out some of the benefits for me, and apple has added some. I decided that the path with probably the least long term headaches was to just switch.
Not the least short term headaches though. I’ve been working on getting the phone set up and apps loaded. Huge time sink today, and it’s not done. I forgot how bad changing phones was when you don’t just log in with the new one and then everything just magically moves over. Plus I don’t know where to swipe and where to find things.
It was good though to purge apps. Since they have flowed over from phone to phone automatically I have several that probably haven’t been used for years. Now every app on there I chose to put on.
I’m guessing I’m happier in a few weeks. Not today though.
I’m happy with my newish 11. I let the person at Apple store move my info. And delete some apps. Where did you buy your phone? Maybe make an appointment and return to receive aid in updating your phone.
I went from a Pixel 1 to Iphone 11. I kept to Android because my kids were android users and they would help me with issues. When my 20-something son said he was going to try Apple, I did too. (I love my iPad). It was quite the hassle getting things moved over, and I’m still not used to it, 2 months later.
I’ve already moved most things over. It’s just getting signed into everything now and trying to find a logical way to arrange things without the app drawer. My old system for organizing doesn’t work with an iphone, so I’m struggling to find something that works for me. It’s not actually that difficult, but will take getting used to.
The best thing about an iphone is that if you have a problem figuring something out, there is probably someone within 20 feet of you who can solve your problem. Since my kids are all longtime apple converts I’m hoping they can help me.
I will say the tipping point for me is the speaker on an Iphone vs. a Pixel. My hearing isn’t as good as it used to be, and I struggled to hear sometimes. People also had trouble with hearing me, so the microphone probably wasn’t that good either. I loved my Pixel as a small handheld computer, but it was kind of a lousy phone. And the radio was going out, I wasn’t always getting calls. So when I switched, I chose Apple.
Update: I’m pretty happy, except that the apple keyboard and especially voice recognition on the keyboard are just awful compared to the google keyboard. Siri understands me fine, but once I open up the keyboard it’s like I’m using a beta version of voice recognition from 2010.
Hate the Apple keyboard! I have become addicted to dragging my finger over the letters and having Google come up with the right words; I couldn’t give that up. And why it is still sooo hard to correct something in the middle of a word? Also don’t understand why they can’t fit numbers above the letters? Even on my iPad they don’t do that.
They have swipe now on the keyboard, but the recognition is horrible. Both with swipe and voice recognition I feel like it’s a buggy beta version. If those were new features I get it. But they have been around and functional most places a long time. It’s a basic function that Apple should have figured out a long time ago.
Did you get the 11 , 11 pro or 11 pro max? I need a new phone and want to watch movies and read books on it while traveling. Which one would be best for that?
I got the 11. It would be fine for that, I think mostly you pay a bunch for a better camera on the pro. I guess I’m not sure on screen size for the pro max, bigger is better for reading the screen at least for me. But I haven’t had issues with the screen size on the 11. Picture quality is great.
Overall I think it’s a good phone. I have been on android for a long time, so it is frustrating when there is something like a bad keyboard that I am stuck with. A few phones ago I didn’t like the keyboard that came on my Samsung, so I downloaded a few others and found one I liked. That’s not an option with Apple. You get what they choose to give you, and if they don’t have a good one, tough.
I use a bluetooth speakerphone (actually a “softphone” technically) for work calls from my home office. It works great with my iPhone as well - has much better sound quality and higher volume than a cellphone, and a more sensitive mic. You might want to check them out if need better audio quality.
This is what I have but there are probably cheaper ones out there. Don’t confuse bluetooth speakerphones like this with bluetooth speakers that happen to have microphones, though. The latter generally aren’t really very good for calls.
On the IOS keyboard, you can hold your finger on the spacebar and it turns into a cursor(?) so you can then slide it to the middle of a word. I think this is a fairly recent update (or at least, I only learned about it recently). Right there with you with the numbers being on a different keyboard!
