Switching from pre-bus econ to Materials Engineering?

Hey so I’m coming in as a pre-bus econ major but I was wondering about the feasibility of switching from this to a Materials Engineering major?

I already took Math 32A,B, and Math 33A in high school but I plan on retaking 32A,B and not 33A (it was hard lol…).

How likely is it that I’ll be able to switch? I know the math is required for the pre-major for materials engineering so that’s why I put that there. I’m not sure if that has anything to do with anything actually…but yeah haha.

Thanks!

^All you want to know.

Start taking Chem (20A) and math (its 31A-33B). Once you have fulfilled 2 prereq maths and 2 prereq chem/physics, petition to switch at the end of 2nd quarter. Its all about GPA.

PS: 1)You are not a transfer right?
2) The flopsy thread has great info

Good luck!

It is very doable. Just keep taking all the math and the physics 1 series and keep applying each quarter. If you can get mostly A’s and B’s, you’re guaranteed the switch.

Doesn’t matter if you’re a transfer or not. In HSSEAS, there is no maximum number of credits you can take. The real problem if you’re a transfer is if you can afford staying extra quarters.

Actually, it does matter how many units you have already taken. HSSEAS has a maximum number of credits, just like everyone else.

Also, if you took Math 32AB and 33A AT your high school (i.e. it’s on your high school transcript), you’ll have to talk to the School of Engineering to see if it’ll count here. From what I understand, it’s only AP/IB and community college courses that will give you credit for those courses here.

There is a “declared” unit maximum of 216 or something like that, but it isn’t strictly enforced or anything. You can talk to the counselors and they’ll take care of everything for you, as was in my case.
