Switching majors?

I decided that I don’t want to do engineering anymore, but I don’t know if I should switch majors right now. Would I get into the new major I want? It’s biochemistry.

Here are some stats:
ACT: 33 (34 English, 35 Math, 28 Reading, 35 Science)
GPA: ~3.278
Classes: Pretty much all AP and Honors courses.

Usual rule is that you cannot change majors until after first year and biochemistry is no exception. You apply for the change during second semester of first year. Other than Molecular and Cellular Basis of Life which you need to transfer for biochemistry and can easily pick up during the first year with an engineering schedule, the courses you take first year in engineering (math, chemistry, physics, and rhetoric) include those needed or recommended to transfer for biochemistry after first year. Thus, you have time to determine if you really want to switch. In any event, you should take the issue up with your assigned college counselor when you go for summer orientation.

Note, there is no guarantee you will be allowed to transfer but chances are high as long as you have good grades in your college courses.
