Switching my program of study

I go to community college in Washington state and I am currently enrolled in a program called Integrated Community Service, I knew I wanted to help others so this is what I chose. Now I know for sure what my passion is. I want to focus more on the addiction part of social work and want to change my degree plan. When would I switch? Is it better to wait? Please help.

Are you planning to transfer to a four year school?

If so, if you know the school, you can work with a counselor at said school to develop the best plan to transfer.

There are likely gen eds you need.

If you will finish at the community college and you know the program of study there, I’m sure there’s an advisor to help you pivot.

Ultimately, if you can figure out the program you plan to finish, it’s probably a great place to start.

Depending on your year or future, you can probably work with someone - either at the CC or four year school - to develop your path to the end goal.

Good luck.

I agree with @tsbna44 that you should talk to your guidance counselor. For example this change might impact which classes you want to take next semester (whether that be over the summer or in the fall).

To me this sounds like a very reasonable change of majors to a new major which is somewhat related to your old major.

I think that it is very positive that you are thinking about and figuring out what you want to do, and you are working on a major that will help people in a significant way.
