I got into UCR but into the School of Agriculture. However, I am no way interested in Agriculture and I applied to the Business School. If I do enroll into UCR, is there any way I can switch into the Business School before enrollment? There is no way I am taking Agriculture, especially since science was my worst subject in high school (besides English).
You cannot switch schools or majors until you start Fall quarter. You can during Freshman orientation, speak with an advisor to see what is required to switch.
If you really want to attend, I would leave this alone until you get to campus. You don’t want to upset your status now. Once there, switching is easy.
To NCalRent - how hard is it to switch UC campus ? Apologies if this was in a past post. Do you see many sophomore leaving ucr to Ucsb, Ucla ? And we’re they specific majors ?
Thanks
@Mskimba from what I’ve read through College Confidential in the past, switching UC campuses is very rare and very difficult (well at least from a low tier UC to a high tier UC) for most students. Talk to a UC admission counselor and get more info if you’re really curious/concerned.
@Mskimba: You would do a UC to UC transfer which would after your 2nd year at UCR. They are difficult in that since you are already attending a UC, priority is given to all the CCC applicants and TAG applicants, along with CSU transfers. You should post your question on the UC transfer forum but what I am have been reading, you will need a high GPA around 3.8 or higher to try and do the transfer as a Junior. Good Luck. There is a CC poster @Lindyk whom is very knowledgeable about UC transfers in general. Good Luck.
UC to UC transfers do happen. Lots of students try to ‘upgrade’ from UCM or UCR and, as @gumbymom notes, preference is given to CCC applicants. So, transferring from UCR to UCB or UCLA It is very competitive - a 3.8 and some serious ECs is a fair estimate of what it would take. UCSB, perhaps a 3.5 would do it.
It is not the ‘normal’ path so, every case is different and you may lose units on the way. Make an appointment with admissions at your target school and see what they say.
UCR is a good school. If you attend, you should commit to the school and engage in the community with the intent of graduating. Looking at the ‘greener’ pastures of LA and SB will undermine your experience.
Honestly, if you just have to go to UCSB - i’d skip UCR altogether, go to a local CC and use TAG to transfer in as a Jr.
You should be able to transfer into the college of business before your classes start. When I applied last year at UT San Antonio, I got into the college of engineering when I enrolled, but by the summer before classes started I transferred into the college of Architecture. I never had to take a single semester in engineering. Contact the college of business and fill out a transfer form. If you are accepted then this should transfer you into business.
