Switching your major

This question is specially geared towards UCI and not the other UC’s. So when I applied I chose to apply under humanities for all of my colleges because I wanted to in a sense pick an easy major in college to buff up my gpa for medical school. However, after lots of reading on college forums and after thinking about it for a while, I think that humanities will be just as hard for me because I won’t be interested in it and that may drastically affect my performance. Since my goal is to become a physician and most science majors incorporate the pre - requisites into their curriculum it would be a better option for me since I can do better with my interest being in science and not having to take a lot more units outside of my major.

My question is specifically geared towards UC Irvine because you can request a major change through their admission website which is fairly simple in comparison to other colleges where you might have to wait until you start. So my question is will me requesting a major change for UCI affect my changes of acceptance at the other colleges because they see my interest geared towards something else now? Or will UC Irvine not like it that towards the end of the game when decisions are about to be released I change my mind.

Is it better to request a change now or after an acceptance (if an acceptance is what I am granted).

ALL RESPONSES WILL BE helpful!@!@

I would change it after acceptance. From my knowledge, they don’t admit based on your major, and if that 1st choice major is impacted, they’ll say your 2nd pick major is open when admitted.

You should probably choose something science related, because yes, the pre-requisites those majors give you will save you time. Pick something that interests you–it can even be Psychology.

It won’t really affect you, almost none of the sciences are really impacted. Many students opt to do it after acceptances during orientation.

Yeah you can probably switch during SPOP (orientation program during the summer).

Thank you guys so much! Your advice really helped!
