Synthesis Essay for AP English Language

Does anyone know how strictly they go by documents for the synthesis essay for the AP English Language and Composition test?

Like is it like a history DBQ, where they expect you to use all the documents?

On the practice cliffs tests, they usually say something like “Use at least 3” but does that seriously mean you can use 3 or would you need to use nearly all of the sources to get the highest score?

They don’t expect you to use all the documents in the USH DBQ, but you could if you wanted I guess. A universally applicable rule is half + 1.

well my history teacher keeps saying that for an 8 or a 9 you should be using practically all the documents, maybe minus 1 or 2. o_0

i dunno how accurate that is though.

That would be NOT ACCURATE at all.

my AP Eng teacher says to only use 3 only

I was also told to use approximately 3-4; more won’t hurt you as long as you make sense :)

^ i agree
it’s just that only half of the docs should work for your side…the rest won’t make sense

don’t try to use all the docs in an attempt to qualify…i would just stick to 4 max
