That’s a great perspective. In addition to “test optional” driving up applications everywhere, and skewing where some kids get in, I think SU is becoming a lot of students " Plan B" if they are looking for a name brand and don’t get into the other usual suspects, further driving up apps. I think pre covid they were in the 30k application range. Last year it was 42k. That is a lot more apps to handle and I bet we hear this year it surpasses 45k.
True, but they only have to decide ED right now, and those applications are a fraction of the 42-45K.
True!
Correct, two years ago they received 2,060 for ED per their CDS filing.
I’m wondering if there’s anyway they’d under promise and over deliver and we’ll see a first wave go out today or tomorrow and a second on the 22nd. I’m sure they don’t want this to linger past the Christmas break any more than we do. But to previous points made, they may be dealing with more applications than they were anticipating. Patience is right!
They committed to the releases beginning on Friday. I am afraid based on prior history, not everyone will hear this week and decisions will spill over into the New Year.
Long time lurker, first time poster. Someone on Reddit thinks that decisions will be out tomorrow (Dec 20th) They claim their cousin is a student there and knows someone in the admissions office…
It doesn’t let me post the link, but if you go on the Reddit Syracuse early decision megathread you’ll see the post.
Thank you for sharing. Taken with a grain of salt of course, but I can’t say I’d be surprised if that was how it played out!
Right… but it would be nice if they start tomorrow and be done notifying everyone by Friday…
That would be a first for 'Cuse both for ED and RD. I have son there now…they have been pretty consistent for the last five years on how they roll.
Are you able to copy the text of the post and insert it here?
Here is the text of the post:
“I have a cousin who goes there. Current sophomore. He told me he knows that the decisions are coming out tomorrow. He has connections with a member of admissions“
Thanks. Hopefully he’s right.
they responded under my comment and I think they’re just BS’ing
My son just received an email from SU Financial Aid Office assigning him a 9-digit Syracuse University ID number (SUID) and Net ID. And has been asked to activate the NetID. Does this mean he has been accepted and maybe there has been timing glitch between financial aid info and ED decisions?
My daughter too. We don’t know what that means.
Got email too. Not sure it means anything. Seems like a standard email in the way it’s written.
Did you not receive the 9-digit SUID/Net ID upon applying for admission a few months ago?
We received the SUID, the net ID is something different I’m pretty sure. The net ID provides a personalized SU email address.
We have never received this email.
