Syracuse Early Decision for Fall 2024 Admission

I hear you. I have one that graduated ‘Cuse in May and continued for his Master’s degree there right now. His other brother applied two years ago, a high stat STEM major, and was waitlisted. The letter was even personalized, acknowledging that he had a sibling there. Now my third, and last child, is hoping for good news as he’s a diehard Orange even before the first one went off there five years ago. :crossed_fingers:t3::pray:t3:

That’s what I was told. I hope they do.

I can confirm they will not show their hand until the last hour regarding when they will release decisions. There used to be an “indicator” on their portal but the portal has since been revamped. I appreciate schools that have portals which offer a preliminary glimpse into the impending decision.

Do you know anything else?

Website now says December 22

Ugh. I just saw that. Thanks.

Can someone post the link where it says December 22 please?

I know that in Dec of 2020 it was 12/18 after 5PM

Disappointing!

I noticed it says that notification ‘begins’ on that date. I wonder if they would break up ED decisions in waves. That would be horrible if some received them on 12/22 and others had to wait until after the holiday break. :man_facepalming:t2:

My college counselor called Lubin House today and they told her that they would start releasing today. Mixed information.

They might release later this year because of the FASFA issues. Being a demonstrated need school, students do not have to accept their ED spot if they don’t get sufficient financial aid that allows them to attend, and I don’t think they want to let accepted students wait too long for their financial aid packages. Last year, my son got his acceptance on Dec 16th and his financial aid package was given on Dec 22, but that was when FASFA was available already in October and all the supporting docu was submitted at time of application. Not sure how all this will work this year with FASFA not releasing until late December, but I could imagine this delaying the whole process.

I spoke to a Financial Aid representative two weeks ago on another matter regarding my current student there and he said that Syracuse will be providing an estimated financial aid package at the time of admission. They rely heavily on the CSS Profile information which provides a holistic picture of families needs when awarding grant money.

In previous years, both ED and RD decisions were released in waves. I believe this could be part of their technology platforms’ capacity. With the initial release of ED decisions now being next Friday, it is possible that some applicants will not hear back until after the new year. The University will shut down for Orange Appreciation Days for the winter break period beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, 2023, through Monday, Jan. 1, 2024. Their normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

As per an email correspondence I had with Syracuse financial aid, I was told CSS profile is not necessary to be considered for merit (ED1). I hope that’s still the case. I did not submit CSS profile as we are not applying for need based aid per the Syracuse NPC results.

I was told the same thing, no need for CSS or FAFSA.

Agreed. I don’t believe that will hold up the decisions. It never had in the past.

I find it really disappointing that everyone’s portal said “mid-December” and they aren’t releasing until later in December. That’s not right.

Admissions officers have a lot on their plates with massive increases in applications the past few years and not enough application readers to go around. I’m using this as an opportunity to talk with my kid about practicing patience, putting ourselves into others’ shoes and putting things into perspective - it is only a week delay vs some expectations, and their language of ‘mid December’ was likely purposefully vague to give some wiggle room in case of unexpected delays.
