Loved the show. Alex and Robert were absolutely amazing. Kent and Lexie get the cuteness awards. IMO the guys on a whole did better that the girls. I thought Lexie performed better than the judges said. Interesting comment Nigel or Mia made to Melinda – about her feet turning in. At least once a year D’s ballet director would make an announcement discouraging serious dancers from taking tap - unless they had natural turnout. Most dancers aren’t born with turnout and must develop the muscle memory for it. Tap is a parallel movement that works against turnout. As a performer Melinda emotes well and connects well to the audience.

I actually like this new format of having the contestants dance with the past stars – you don’t have to divide your attention between the two dancers. It makes it easier for the judges to critique each contestant’s performance.
Yes, more so than in previous seasons…………still somewhat long-winded
Totally, agree with ya’ll about the opening camera work…………so unfair to the dancers who didn’t get a close-up.

I have to agree that the guys seemed to do better last night. I love Alex! I could watch him dance all night long. Mia was much nicer than she has been in the past, but I did miss Mary. We have never gotten tickets for the show even though we have been signed up the past couple of years so we are really hoping we get to go see it live this season.

We were so surprised by Kent’s performance, I don’t know the technical name for it, but ballroom guys get some really slick movement going with their hips that I just love (loved it when I first saw Patrick Swayze in DD ;)) and Kent actually had a bit of that going. He seems so sweet & down on the farm, we were impressed with the attitude of command he showed in that routine. I watched him more than Anya.

So I was pleasantly surprised with the Al Stars component of the show. They really downplayed the All Stars and put them in the support position, including getting them off the stage quickly. Done rather well. I think it made everyone up their game. But it really shows the difference with those that are already polished and those that aren’t.

I did get tired of the judges telling so many that they weren’t expecting such good performance. What a backhanded compliment. I muted the judges eventually.

I wonder if the new “All-Stars” format is due to the fiasco of last season (the one in the fall that got lousy ratings)? This format, with only 11 new dancers, means a shorter season - they’ve cut 5 weeks off.

And what will the tour be? All of them, since it’s usually Top 10? Will the All Stars tour as well? Top 5 + All Stars? Or no tour?

I do not think the season will be cut short with the new format. Instead of letting a boy and a girl go each week, only one dancer will be cut.

I have wondered about the tour as well. They already have some really great numbers to take on tour, including some of the group pieces they showed last week.

I for one loved the new format. I thought the music choices and the dancing were amazing. Week one and I am having a hard figuring out who should go! I think it is going to be a great season.

What did you all think of the results show? well, I guess West Coast people might not have seen it yet, so I won’t give away who left…

BUT, it was very cool that they had dancers from Come Fly With Me, which we saw in a preview here in Atlanta last fall before it opened on Broadway. The dancing in that show is AMAZING!!!

I’m wondering if we are going to see the last 5 shows or so being an all-boy competition? It seems the guys this year are all either amazing or intriguing, ladies not so much.

yeah, an all-boy finale certainly would not be a surprise. I wonder if they will do some “manipulation” of things to avoid that. I don’t think they would tamper with votes or anything, I just think that if it comes down to letting one of the lowest three vote-getters go, they might send home a guy just to keep more girls around. Like last night, I felt like they would not want to send home their only tapper or their only salsa girl quite yet.

I was wondering the same thing about whether they would manipulate things to keep girls in the competiton. But then my D pointed out that since they have the all-stars, they don’t need to keep an even boy-girl ratio so that everyone will have an opposite sex partner.

I am already envisioning an Alex/Kent final and would be heartbroken if either had to lose.

Yes, I agree. I think Kent has a big audience following and I can see where the last 4 shows contestants are all guys. Thanks, all you folks on the East coast for not being spoilers. :)

Although I love the guys and am just so-so about the girls, I really do hope that one of the girls really steps up to the plate…maybe Ashley? (I have a hard time remembering the girls’ names.) I really think the judges are talking down to the girls…Nigel called the one who was eliminated something like “a cute little dancer.” I know she’s short, but they’ve had short guys, too, and they don’t get those comments. And Mia called someone something like a “little bunny.” What the heck? I need for one of those women to turn into a beast (but I’m not optimistic.)

I either saw or read an interview with Allison and she said that there was talk of a S6/S7 tour with at least some of the all-stars when they were asked to join the show. Nothing firm, but that it was presented as an idea.

Alex and Allison’s Sonya number was pretty fantastic, I see that as the benefit of the All-Stars. I know that Billy Bell is an incredible dancer, but I really don’t like his “personality”, I thought he came off really poorly last night. I’m on the Alex/Kent/Robert train since the girls are not compelling for me at all. I liked Melinda, but she was pretty weak this week, and I always feels like girls like Lauren (and Lauren and Jaime and Mollee and even Allison whom I adore) should wait a season or two to audition, so that they can mature in their dancing. Mia called that correctly about Allison when she referred to all the life that she’s lived since her season, it shows in her dancing.

Missy, I agree with calmom, the guys are “all either amazing or intriguing, ladies not so much.” IMO, of the 4 remaining girls, Lauren has the most talent and audience appeal. But I guess we will just have to wait and see.

YESSSS!!! Alex !!! Love him. Can’t believe how versatile he is. I just hope the voting keeps with him and he doesn’t look to the “cutie” factor. He’ll definitely be employed again though.
