If you have a T-Mobile cellular plan, please post your feedback. I know coverage at home will vary by area, so I’m researching that locally. But I’m my CC pals might have some feedback on various plans and costs, tech support etc.
More Background: We have had Verizon for decades. But as my husband checked about replacing his 6 year old iphone, we discovered that our bill is going up (old plan cost increases) AND we’ll need to go to Unlimited plan to get a new phone. Costs seem pretty high (about $162/month, 2 lines, unlimited, will include one new iphone 16 pro). Stopped at AT&T - saleman was helpful, and prices almost as high; dealbreaker is many horrible local reviews on lack of coverage.
T-Mobile has various plans, with senior discount. All cost less than Verizon, and they include some streaming subscription perks. Per local reviews, coverage about the same with Verizon or T-Mobile. We do annual extended road trip from CO to MA as well as an occasional trip to Mexico or Europe, and T-Mobile may have the edge there.
We have had t-mobile for many years. We have SR plan. It’s $80 for 2 lines, including all texting (even international). Unlimited phone at data in US. It would be $70/month is we used a debit card or connected to autopay with checking or other acct.
You can even make your phones hotspots at no extra charge. We originally had t-mobile but one year, none of our kids had reception in any of the 5 places they rented so we switched to Verizon for 2 years. Once they graduated from college and lived in large cities with better reception, we switched back to tmobile.
So far, we’ve been content with tmobile and no interest in switching. You fo have to check if you have good reception tho.
We have T-Mobile. We were on Sprint since cell phones began and we were moved over to T-Mobile when they merged with Sprint. We are happy with our phones and coverage. I believe my plan is one that was grandfathered over from Sprint. Both of our daughters are still on our plan (they pay us back monthly). Our 4 phones lines with unlimited data are just under $200 a month. It would be even lower than that, but D2 had to replace her iphone so that is costing another $25 a month. We seem to get pretty good coverage on T-Mobile. When we travel abroad I turn on international which is expensive at $35 for 10 days, but we just do it on 1 of our lines.
I think the customer service at T-Mobile is much better than Verizon which I despised.
My husband is convinced that the coverage is worse than Verizon. I think he doesn’t like change. Coverage is fine.
3 lines, 2 16 pro max and another iPhone for my mom. $212 per month, includes Netflix.
My children like Verizon and have stayed with them. I was tired of the bad customer service, the terrible store that wouldn’t help and the higher price. The T-Mobile service is great, the store actually helps when I have issues.
It works on vacation for no extra charge which is a great bonus. We would use what’s app if we needed to make a call, which we did sparingly. Some trips not at all
We pay $120 for two unlimited lines on Verizon.
T-Mobile has poor coverage where our 2nd home is located, poor enough that it pretty much unusable by guests who have their service.
My SIL and her husband have TMobile, mostly for the coverage they get traveling in Europe.
You can web search for T-Mobile and Verizon coverage maps. Verizon has better coverage in some rural areas (see the maps). T-Mobile is beta-testing Starlink in areas where it does not have its own coverage (Starlink may not be available for MVNOs using T-Mobile; otherwise, the MVNOs’ coverage should be similar to the carrier they are reselling service from).
Thanks for the feedback! We have been happy with Verizon coverage at home and on the road (though cost is extra in Europe if we can’t get by with just wifi). Just like the idea of lower cost and included streaming perks, some of which we now pay for directly.
Not sure if we will switch cell providers or not. If we do, any warnings about transition process?
That’s not a bad deal. For Verizon, we pay $10/day (usually onl one phone) for the few days we can’t get by with wifi. I think I read it is capped $100/month.
I’m really surprised at the Verizon costs. I pay $147 for 4 unlimited lines. We were all eligible for new phones over Xmas. 3/4 of us upgraded. H kept his. But younger S - we all upgraded separately at different stores in different cities - somehow got some preliminary unlimited plan, so when he goes abroad everything is free. No $10/day for him.
T Mobile coverage in my area isn’t supposed to be good.
We switched from AT&T to Verizon in 2015. Talk about horrible service! Our store is terrible. They made you wait forever and everyone was condescending and rude and made you feel like an idiot. We’ve been happy with our Verizon store.
You no longer have to pay by the day with Verizon when traveling. They now have an ultimate unlimited plan which covers international. Its is $65/month so depending on your current plan $15-20 more than the standard plan. Easy to switch on line. I just switch when I travel and then switch back as soon as I return. There is a $12 switch fee. But if you’re traveling for more than a couple days still cheaper than paying by the day and you don’t have to decide day by day if you want to spend the $12 or stick to wifi.
We switched last year from Cricket to T-Mobile because my husband and I needed to upgrade our phones. We got new phones for free, unlimited everything (I was able to text and use data abroad but not make calls), senior plan (55+), and we pay $90 a month for the two phones (no taxes on top of that). The only coverage issues I had were in the middle of nowhere visiting a friend in Tucson. Otherwise no issues.
$162/month seems ridiculous, unless the listed cost is primarily for the phone rather than the data. You may want to review MVNO plans that use the T-Mobile/Verizon network, rather than purchasing plans directly through T-Mobile/Verizon. Skimming through plans on Whistleout, there are many unlimited options at $25/month that use T-Mobile (or Verizon).
I’ve tried a variety of data providers that used both T-Mobile and Verizon network. In my neighborhood, differences are not perceptible to me. I rarely do anything that requires especially high speed data. However, in some areas where I hike or travel, there are huge differences. You can find coverage maps online, which may gives some ideas about whether T-Mobile is lacking in your area.
After trying both T-Mobile and Verizon, I eventually settled on a Verizon network plan due to covering more areas I travel. I chose a plan that has the equivalent of better than free new Galaxy S2#+ phone each year (receive a few hundred dollars cash, along with new phone) + phone/data/messages for $14/month. In recent months, price has increased from $14 to $20/month (unlimited start at $30/month).
Agreed. And that is only with just one new phone. Mine is paid off. Hence our investigations, despite the fact that we’ve been pleased with our Verizon service locally and in the mountains and on our cross-country road trips.
We had been paying $115 (two paid-off phones, Verizon’s old 4GB plan… rarely went over that, but for a new phone they say that plan not available).
We both got iPhone 13s. We had no issues with Cricket (it was $20 less a month, although not unlimited and nothing (not even something you could pay for) abroad. However, they would only give you phone deals if you were switching from another company. Oh, we also got free Netflix on the T-Mobile plan.
We have T-Mobile, 4 lines for 100, I think it was a grandfathered sprint military rate. (It includes a Hulu subscription). I did have to proactively search for a better rate several years ago, but to their credit, they haven’t raised it over several years. (Unlimited data/text/whatever)
I have had T-Mobile for like 18 year’s. The best customer service. We pay less then you for 4 phones with included with international calling etc. Plus we get Netflix at a steep discount and other stuff.
We have traveled outside the US many times without an issue. My son used to live in RI. My daughter in Portland Oregon and I live in Chicago. Never really had an issue.
I was actually surprised that ATT quote was around $150 (including the 3 yr new phone fee after credit for old phone). Figured they’d have some great deal to encourage us to switch from Verizon. It was only a fact finding stop… it was not until later that I read all the horrible local ATT feedback, taking them out of the running. (found the feedback via a very long Reddit thread, from google search of my city / AT&T
TMobile customer for 20 years here. Our plan is $100/month for unlimited everything and includes
-all taxes and fees and promise never to change rates
-40gb hotspot (I use my hotspot quite often, dh has no idea what it is)
-Netflix
-Apple TV
-Free in flight wifi/data/streaming on all Delta, United, American and Alaska Airlines flights.
Paramount+ for 6 months
-AAA for one year
-discounts in other entertainment subscriptions
Customer service is awesome.
I will say both my mom and my 30 year old DD have Mint Mobile (uses TMobile’s towers). My mom pays $15/month and DDs plan is 20/month. They obviously have VERY different phones habits but both are quite happy with their coverage and service.
