TAAP scholarship

I got this email about a scholarship, like many of you probably did from Berkeley:

Greetings Cal Applicant,

UC Berkeley would like to invite you to apply for an Alumni Scholarship!

Although Admissions has not made a decision about your application, you may
be eligible to apply for the Achievement Award Program (TAAP), a scholarship
and support program for first-year and new transfer students to Cal.
Sponsored by the California Alumni Association, the TAAP award is worth up
to $23,000 over four years.

It is ONLY available to incoming students, so this is your only opportunity
to apply!

We are looking for students who:
*Have high financial need, and
*Have demonstrated academic and personal growth in spite of difficult
learning and/or living environments, and
*Have past and/or current community service, and
*Have participated in a college preparatory outreach program (like MESA,
Upward Bound, Puente, EOPS, GEAR-UP, or a local program; for more
information see our website at <a href=“Support The Achievement Award Program - Cal Alumni Association)%5B/url%5D”>Support The Achievement Award Program - Cal Alumni Association), and
*Have diverse perspectives and experiences that would enrich the Cal
community and the TAAP family.

The deadline to apply is February 15, 2006. With under 4 weeks remaining,
we urge you to apply online today: http://alumni.berkeley.edu/taap</a></p>

Please also see our website for more details on TAAP and other scholarship
opportunities: http://alumni.berkeley.edu/scholarships</a></p>

Good luck with your application, and we look forward to reading it!

Sincerely,

NOTE: Your receipt of this e-mail does not in any way reflect on your
application for admission to UC Berkeley or your eligibility for Alumni
Scholarships. You are no more or less likely to be admitted to UC Berkeley
because you have received this invitation; your decision to apply or not for
Alumni Scholarships will not affect your admissions status. Alumni
Scholarships are sponsored by the California Alumni Association, The
University of California Berkeley Foundation, and the Regents of the
University of California. For more information, see:

So I want to apply, but then apparently you need to have been in some “outreach/college preparation program”, like EAOP, upward bound, puente, etc.

I’m high need, but I never knew about those programs, or at least didn’t know they were quite that important. So does this mean I can’t apply for this scholarship?

Um…maybe you missed the FAQ section? =]

"What are the current UC-Sponsored Outreach Programs?

Click here to view the list.
http://alumni.berkeley.edu/Students/Scholarships_and_Awards/Achievement_Award/UC-Affiliated_Outreach_Programs.asp</a></p>

What if the outreach program or college preparation program that I participated in is not considered UC-sponsored?

Please fill out the appropriate information on the application, so we know your outreach program is eligible. The goal of this aspect of the application is to reach students whose traditional high school or community college education must be supplemented with services and/or funding of an outreach program.

What if I did not participate in any outreach or college preparation program?

You are not eligible to apply for the Achievement Award."

I guess I’m not eligible then!

Thanks.

I’m OOS and I got an e-mail like this, but it’s for the “Leadership Awards” and are “given on a merit-only basis to students who
have taken leadership roles through their school, extra-curriculars,
volunteer work, employment, or in extraordinary personal circumstances”

When did you get your emails?
