Tabor Academy Culture

To ANYONE who either went there goes there or knows about it, what is Tabor like? How is the culture of the school? What is the social life like? How are the teachers? and anything you would also like to add, I would love to know!

What I can say is the community is very “supportive”. You get an advisor who in may cases lives in your dorm. I guess you can change your advisor if you do not have a good chemistry with her/him. The school gives you chances to get helps from your teachers. It’s up to you if you want to take an advantage of it.

I’m a current senior and I can honestly say that choosing Tabor has been one of the best decisions of my life thus far. I have found the community to incredibly supportive and cooperative, something that I honestly was not expecting. Everyone supports everyone in their endeavors (not just athletic ones).

We do all live in the “Tabor Bubble,” so it often feels as though everyone knows everything about everyone. I know some people who are a little turned off by that, but I don’t really mind because the students, for the most part, aren’t fans of starting drama.

Socially, it can be difficult to fit in initially if you aren’t athletic, well-connected, good looking, or all of the above (but that is the same for every high school). In the long run, though, if you’re a nice person then people will like you and you’ll make plenty of friends. Being genuinely nice and passionate is by far the best way to make friends here, and I think that says a lot about the student body as a whole.

The teachers are, in my opinion, the greatest facet of Tabor. They really love the school and teaching and you can tell. Some of my teachers are like my best friends, and they really make an effort to know the students as more than just students.

You know Tabor is a great place when I spend half of my summer counting down the days until I can return (and I have a pretty great home life). It really is my second home, and Tabor has made me into a way more confident, intelligent, and caring person.
