TABS Visits in Asia

The Association of Boarding Schools has posted their school fairs in Asia: http://www.schools.com/Asia/2007/</a> . Unfortunately, there are no fairs in Vietnam and the Philippines. Those of you in the countries visited might find it helpful.

Thanks for the info. Just wondering, is it okay if I fly out to Beijing, China for the Nov. 2 School Fair or Hong Kong for Nov.10? It’s near where I live (Philippines) and airfare is cheap for these countries. Plus, we’ll be on vacation.

You should contact TABS to ask. I think the answer is yes, but I don’t know. Some schools are not going to every Asia TABS event, so you probably want to go to the event with the most schools, or with most of the schools you are interested in. You can also go to the “Admissions” section of the schools you are interested in to find out if they are going to Asia on their own or with another group. Most schedules should be posted in the next week or two as schools begin. Good luck!

cate-intl, it should be no problem at all. I’ve been to the one in Tokyo and it was open to the public. I don’t think anyone cares whether you are a local or someone who happens to be in that city on vacation.

cate – You should also check to be certain that enough schools offer financial aid to internationals to make your trip worthwhile. If you go, you might be able to schedule interviews with the attending admissions officers.

Thanks for the advice. I should definitely check if the schools that are participating in this event offer aid to internationals. Do I have to fill up an application already prior to the interview? I haven’t finalize my list yet.

In the US, you can have an interview without an application. In fact, most people do this. You will probably need to fill out an inquiry sheet which lists basic information about you plus your interests.

Thanks for the information.
I just want to ask what happens in a school fair (sorry, I have never attended one)? And do the schools recruit students during the fair or they just simply offer you information about their schools?

The best way for you to find out about what happens at this school fair is to exchange emails with a few of the contact people from the schools that interest you.

I have been to a school fair in the US, and it was primarily to offer information about the schools. Admissions people were offering the information. I have heard that at some schools fairs it is possible to schedule an interview before or after. I don’t know whether or not you can do that at this fair.
