Tackling Barron's

So i just started using Barron’s How to Prepare for the SAT 23rd Edition. The book starts off with a diagnostic test. I will take it. Is there anything i should keep in mind? I ve heard that Barron’s is insane. Do you guys think i should just stop using Barron’s? Or skip all the tests… just study the provided material? Any tips?

I’d take a CB test as your diagnostic. They’re much more accurate than Barron’s.

Yeah, you want to know something? I’m getting ready to tutor some students, so I’ve been taking all these tests (Barron’s, Kaplan, CB (old/new), etc.) to determine which tests are accurate and which aren’t.

I consistently score 2300-2400 on old Q&As, I got a 2340 on the December test, but I could barely break 2100 on a barron’s test (after all my very high CB scores!).

So, Barron’s is much harder, but definitely worthwhile since it’ll give you confidence on the real thing.

interesting information Ashraf Eassa, knew Barron’s Subject Tests were harder but didn’t know the reasoning was too.

i took the diagnostic test. I got a 1640… how would that translate on the real thing guys? Would that break 1800 on the real thing?

can anybody help me? What does a 1640 in barron’s equal to in CB tests or the REAL test itself.

Roughly speaking, of course, I’d say that’s an 1840.

yess that made my day.

i think ill continue with barrons, if i can get well with it, ill be overprepared for the real thing

Good plan.

use the CB book tho too once you’re done with barrons’. It would be good to practice questions by the test-taker as well.

Ashraf Eassa - very interesting post. Thx - I will take a look at the practice tests in Barrons. Still as a general rule it is best to practice with real tests. So that means the Blue Book, released SATs, and don’t forget that it is possible to buy PSATs from the College Board Store.

true, after studying a bit, and taking some more Barrons, i ll switch to the Blue book and practice in that.
