TAG GPA Requirement

Anyone know why two vastly different caliber schools like UCSD and UCSC have the same 3.0 requirement for TAG? Riverside’s requirement is 2.8, and Merced’s is 2.7, but the rest of them seem to all go with 3.0. Why?

I would say because the new tag only asks for IGETC courses and is no longer contracted/documented. By making it IGETC instead of the previous requirements, takes a workload off your shoulders, which is why UCSD raised it’s gpa from 2.8 to 3.0. I would also like to say that if an individual makes it through a CC with over a 3.0 GPA and 60 CC credits (90 UC) then they will be alright at any UC they transfer to, by this I mean surviving.

I personally think that because it is no longer contracted on paper, that the school will even reject several students who will apply under the new tag. If you don’t believe this, then why did they take away the signed contract?

Although the physical contract is now optional for some schools, it is still contracted. For example, at UCSD, you not only need to finish IGETC by X date, but also “… maintain a 3.0 GPA through the end of Spring term 2009.”

also

“Both UC English courses and the UC math course must be completed by the end of Fall term prior to Fall admission, and by the end of Summer term prior to Winter admission”

I wouldn’t be too surprised if almost everyone that had a 3.0 and applied to UCSD indicated tag, whether or not those three classes were completed by the end of fall, as it wasn’t explicitly stated. So, as smartkid says, it is true that there will potentially be a large amount of applicants who think they’re “tagged” that won’t be accepted.
