Can you provide more information on TAG pathway to particular UC? How do we do that?
6 UC campuses participate in the TAG program: UC Merced, Riverside, Santa Cruz, Davis, Irvine and Santa Barbara. You can only TAG to one campus but can apply as Regular transfer to all of the rest of the UC’s including UC San Diego, LA and Berkeley.
UC Santa Barbara, Irvine, Davis and Santa Cruz do have several competitive majors that are excluded from the TAG program.
Also UCR and UCM now have some major exclusions so check the matrix.
Below is the TAG matrix with the list of GPA and course requirements, major exclusions etc…
Basically you attend a California Community, complete the GPA and course requirements, file the TAG application in September prior to Spring graduation. You also need to apply through the regular UC application as a Transfer.
D24 is considering her options. SHe was admitted to UCSC CS/gamedesign but is not sure if she will like it . If she starts but then drops out, can she apply to TAG next year to another UC (Davis Design) ? Is there a point at which you “burn your TAG bridges” ? thanks
To TAG you must have at least a minimum 30 semester units completed at a CA CC by time of matriculation.
Who can file a TAG?
Only students transferring directly from a California community college (CCC) are considered for a TAG, including international students (those with a visa).
A CCC transfer student is one who has completed at least 30 semester (45 quarter) UC-transferable units at one or more California community
colleges. The last college the student attended in a regular session (fall/spring or fall/winter/spring) before admission to a UC campus must be a California community college.
Thanks. She already has 46 UC quarter units (dual enrolled HS) and 6/7 of the patten of 7, TAG GPA 3.67 . She would focus on major requirements for her 1 year at CCC, plus remaining humanities for pattern of 7. Whats weird is that she could TAG to UCD in 1 year at junior standing and be ahead of those who got in a freshman to her original first choice program !. However she is already young so we dont want her to rush through. If she TAGs can she slow down and extend the time out to 3 years (take less classes, add a minor, other major) or do the UCs expect you to graduate in 2 years?
thanks for the Matrix… it seems to indicate that even if she did started UCSC and left ( not that she will but good to know), prior to reaching “reach or exceed 80
semester (120 quarter) transferable units of
college coursework” plus . She could go to CCC and then plan to apply for TAG the following year (so 1 year USCS/CCC, another year CCC then transfer.).
Does this transferable limit include ALL units both UCSC and CCC?
Most UC’s have a 225 quarter unit limitation for degrees plus each UC campus and/or College may also set limitations on the maximum number of units allowed.
Usually Transfers are given 4 semesters/6 quarters to complete their degree but may allow up to 6 semester/9 quarters by students filing an extension.
The maximum transferable units from a CCC which are lower division is 70 semester/105 quarter units.
Units taken at a UC are added to the CCC transferable units. She would want to stay under 120 quarter units at time of transfer since many campuses will not accept High unit Juniors.
Berkeley/Davis/Merced/Riverside have the 80 semester/120 quarter unit threshold.
Irvine, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz have a 90 semester/135 quarter unit threshold
UCLA has a 86.5 semester/130 quarter unit threshold.
wow! thank you so much… there is so much info out there, its hard to know what is true or not. I appreciate all your help!
If Davis is where she really wants to go then 1 year at a CC and TAG might be the better plan
