Taglit Birthright

Thanks for everyone’s feedback!! I just wanted to update. . I did go through the application process. I was quite clear about my background and completely honest. In my interview, I explained my situation in its entirety, as well as on my application. I was accepted to the program and will be going to Israel in May! I am so excited and can’t wait to embark on this incredible adventure  Thank you to everyone for their support and wish me luck as I begin to explore my roots! xx

That’s wonderful news! Birthright was a very positive experience for my daughter-- and I am so happy to know that you were forthright in explaining your background in your interview and application. That way you will feel confident that you “belong” and are accepted. You’ll actually find that the students in your group may be very diverse ranging from secular, non-observant Jews to very orthodox.

Three of my kids have gone on Birthright trips. It’s a tremendous opportunity and will create memories that you won’t soon forget. Since their trips, two of mine have gone back to Israel on their own.

Good for you! It so happens my 26 year old daughter is going on Birthright in May too.

That is wonderful.
Two of mine at waiting to hear about a July trip. They keep calling my D and offering her a May trip and she keeps telling them the same answer. Her school goes till late June. Yet two days ago she got the same call.

My 21 year old son leaves May 10

Go…be honest with the Birthwrigt people and you…meaning that YOU want to know who you are religiously. As some of you may or may not know Mr. Ellebud is not Jewish. I was raised as a secular Jew. Our children were raised as secular Jews. (Note: that does NOT mean that we did Chrismakuh.

Young Mr. Ellebud is married to a fabulous woman who is from a conservacox family. (As for the wedding…oy what tumult!). Al l of her friends and family have been to Israel many times. There is a new program that invites gay/lesbian couples, interfaith couples, transgender couples…name it…you are accepted.

That is a longwinded way of saying…they want the couples, they’ll want you. I am not be snarky. Apply.

A lot of Taglit Birthright people here. Older S went a few years ago in December when it was snowing in Jerusalem, first time in 30 years. He liked it so much he went back that summer for a 2 month unpaid internship in Jerusalem. His younger brother is going this coming May. Good for you, OP to ask about this opportunity and to apply for it! Have a wonderful experience!! PS: Try everything…the Falafel from the street vendors, the climb to Masada, the floating in the Dead Sea, the museums, the camel rides (!), the sleeping in a Beduoin Tents, a really fun time. Enjoy! When I was in college, they didn’t have Birthright, but I spent 3 months there on a combined trip as well as volunteering. There are so many opportunities for programs and trips these days…I LOVED my experience. Too bad I haven’t been back since (yet), but my kids have. We even became close to a cousin we have living there. Have fun!

Have a wonderful trip! So glad you are going to be able to have this experience.

@chocchipcookie My DD went this December and they had a lot of snow too. It was crazy. DS went last December and they had great weather.

All in all they had great trips and I think you (OP) will really enjoy it.

Both my Ds were accepted for a May trip! I know there’s been lots of advice both on this thread and the Jewish B student one in the Parent Café, but I can’t seem to find the phone recommendations. Help?
