take new SAT or wait till next year?

just took the last old SAT, got a 1450. In reaching for a goal score of 1500+, would it be wiser to go ahead and take the first administration of the new SAT as, rumor has it, it’s going to be scored on a more lenient curve? Or should i wait till the beginning of senior year, after i’ve taken precal over the summer and, hopefully, gained the skill that accompanies greater maturity etc…?

bump? …

Well, if you’re graduating in 2006, you’re supposed to take the new SAT, not the old one - unless you’re going to an instate, a lot of schools want the writing part.

take it in march. if you don’t do well, then you can always take it again.

i just don’t like the idea of getting a score equal to or lower than my present one…can the rumor about an easier curve be justified?

i think it’s just an assumption. the curve on the psat this year was pretty tough, in my opinion (-4 on math = 68). i wouldn’t mind getting the same score on the new sat as i did on the old, though.

oh well. i think i’ll just take it early next school year once i’ve taken precal over summer etc.

I agree with discordial, the old SAT does not even count, so why would you have taken it at all. If you wait until October to take the new SAT, and apply EA or ED, you are not giving yourself much leeway for retaking the new SAT. I have seen Seniors scrambling around, taking the SAT in December while also trying to finish applications, essays etc. Have you taken the SAT-2 writing (not available anymore). That may give you a vague indication on how you would do in this extra writing component .

Also, how were your PSAT scores?

when do EA or ED applications begin? i thought i’d be safe taking it in october…Well, my psat scores were 770v 680m 750w.
i haven’t taken the SATII writing.
i took the old SAT because it still does count at most places and i thought the math would be easier for me (weak point), but scored a 670. I have to do better. I figured that i wouldn’t be able to do much better on the new SAT math, so i’d wait until i’d taken precal to refresh algebra skills etc.
thanks for your advice

EA/ED applications are usually due by 10/31 or 11/1, so technically, you could take it in october or even november, depending on the school.

770/680/750 aren’t PSAT sweetie, try leaving off the 0.

And I repeat, graduating in 2006 you HAVE to take the new SAT.

you don’t have to take it if you aren’t applying anywhere, haha. but not every school actually requires that you take the new one; a lot of private ones will accept old sat + writing instead of the new sat.

It is correct that many schools will still accept the old SAT for next year’s seniors. Also, many that require the new SAT will still look at the scores from the old SAT. A lot of schools had their juniors take the January SAT and will then have them take March or May new SAT.

who cares? does it matter?
