haven’t taken ACT yet, hopefully planning to in october or so…
i imagine this questions been asked like 2 million times but im still a bit hesistant on what to do… i want to go to a tech school (cooper union ^_^) but im not sure whether scoring higher on those two SAT IIs would look better or scoring a 2300+ on a single sitting for the SAT I would look better. I wanted to do both, but early decision for some of the more competitive schools is a bit early and I hear that many of them won’t accept november SAT scores, even if rushed. I’m in a bit of a dilemma here… any help would be greatly appreciated from you geniuses out there…somewhere… thank you

ok, the real problem here is that not a lot of schools superscore especially tech schools and top-tier schools. so, getting in requires both high SATs (in one sitting) and high SAT IIs. believe me, a lot people may say that colleges look at everything and not just tests, but the tests are what get you “your foot in the door” per se. don’t worry about SAT I, the 2160 is pretty competitive and your SAT IIs arent bad either. The choice you will have to make is whether a 2300 looks better with your SAT IIs or if a 2160 looks better with 2 800s on your SAT IIs. IMO, retake your SAT IIs because a lot of competitive students have gotten 800s on their SAT IIs.

thank you for the ultra-fast (to a worryingly frigtening degree…) response!!
i saw MIT and columbia superscored so i had high hopes but i guess not… its really hard to find info about superscoring on some colleges websites (cooper union website doesn’t really have any info about anything). my parents suggested i retake SAT II as you have suggested, so im studying that for now. any suggestion on ACTs? i guess thats my last door out since i can take it before an early decision due date… would a high score on that one mend the glaring gap for my SAT I score? i hear kids who have trouble with SAT like me have a better time with the ACT? anyway, thank you!

Actually, MOST schools Superscore the SAT Is (not much point to superscoring SAT IIs, they just take your highest)

Most do superscore–call and ask specific school you are interested in if you are at all unsure!

bummmmmmp?

I’m not sure about Cooper Union, but I know that top schools (e.g. MIT) want you to have both a math/science SAT subject test and one that isn’t. If you decide to retake your subject tests, consider taking a third if you feel you could do well. That will make you more competive among a sea of Math/Physics scores. Again, that may not representative of Cooper Union.

Also, nearly all of the top schools I know of, “techy” or not, will take your composite score (superscore) for your SAT. It is best to ask and make sure of it though. For schools that do, your 2220 isn’t amazing but definitely competitive, as are your SAT subject tests, so you can go either way. For schools that only take a single score, retake the SAT.

alright thank you! I could take SAT II Korean which is only offered in November… could that just be a safe filler for schools that want 3 SAT II’s? I’m a native speaker and I’m confident that I could get 800 on that at least…(unless of course whoever makes up the listening portion is american…or a non-native korean speaker… i highly doubt that)

Don’t take the SATII for your native language… It’s expected that you would get an 800 on that. Take a different humanities or language SATII like history, literature, or a language.

i would actually take another SAT II subject test like a history, and retake MathII if you feel like you want to
dont retake physics no matter what

You’d better take ACT this year!
