Hi, my son (junior) received a 2170 on the old SAT (760R, 750M, 670W), and just received a 1470 (34R, 34W, 37M, 210 SI) on the new PSAT without any prep. He is taking the old SAT again next week, but should he also take the new SAT? Do you think his scores on the PSAT are strong enough where there might be a significant increase between his old SAT score and a the new test? Of course he would prefer not to take another SAT unless it might result in a signifiant score increase. He has a 4.0 UW/4.6W GPA, and his dream schools is Harvey Mudd ;-).
If his SAT scores next week are good, he doesn’t have to worry about taking the new SAT. However, his PSAT score is pretty good, and he has the ability to do well on it with a bit more preparation (just in case his score next week isn’t as good as expected). Harvey Mudd is a math-science school, so the math subscore has a greater importance than the other subjects.
