<p>This is my son’s first year at a very competitive high school, sophomore, international student.<br>
He did not do well at his honor science class. Only very few students get A.
Some of my friends suggest him to take SATII subject at Oct (preparing during this summer). If he does well, colleges will understand bad grade is because he needs time for adjust at new country, new school. If he does not do well at SATII, just use College Board score choice, then colleges will not see it.
I don’t know if this is a good idea?</p>
<p>I’m no expert and I am still in school myself, but I took AP Bio and took the SAT II. Your son will eventually have to take an SAT II and Bio is a really popular one to take. Depending on the rigor of the Honors course, be sure to get him some prep books and make him take plenty of practice tests. As for his performance on the exam, some colleges require all scores be sent, so Score Choice isn’t always an option.</p>
<p>It sounds like a good idea if your son can do well on the test. Remember, you don’t need to register for the october test until september so I would have him study for the test, and then take a couple of practice tests from a test prep book. If he does well on these practice tests, then have him sign up for the october test, and you won’t even need to worry about score choice, because it is true that some colleges won’t accept score choice.</p>
<p>I did this. I had an 84 in APUSH, which I considered dismal. That said, it was also the most thorough class I’ve ever taken, and it was well written. I took the SAT Subject Test for US (along with the AP exam) to show that I did “poorly” in the class not because I didn’t learn anything, but because for once I DID learn something. I got a 730 and I am satisfied. If you’re nervous about the grades, it can’t hurt.</p>

<p>At the beginning of his sophomore year, he did some practice of the subject test. But after got poor grades from school, he stopped and focus more on school works. </p>
<p>I need to talk to him and let him make the decision, whether to take the subject or not.</p>
<p>i would suggest he take chemsitry if he is at least in an honors chemistry course and just go buy him a barrons book to look over the summer and he should be fine</p>
