September 2006: Start undergrad.
September 2010: Withdrawal under extenuating circumstances (5 W notations).
September 2012: Return to school and finish undergrad and graduate in June 2013.

How would med school adcoms view this, assuming that the gap time is spent productively?

Basically, you had to take a break between your senior year (4th) and your supersenior year (5th) that was two full years long?

I would probably be more concerned about why you were going to take more than 4 years in the first place or was there stuff building up to your withdrawal in September?

I don’t think med school gives a crap about that. I honestly think the number three things they care about is (1) GPA, (2) MCAT Scores, and (3) Anything to make yourself stand out from other competitors. I.E. pretty much every university program. To be quite honest I have the same situation. I started school in 08’ but I’m about to be a senior here pretty soon based on hours, even though I have been in college going on five years since I started in the Fall of 08. I feel like our society likes to put these social markers for us, but I’ve learned over the course of my journey to see that people the age of 35 to even 45 are trying to receive a bachelors now, and about a few of them still reaching for masters and doctorate. My only thing to say to your seven years would be, to be ready to tell me what happened.
