Taking a bike trip with my son

Since we both don’t have the constraints of a job… LOL… my 20yr old son and I will be setting off early tomorrow morning on a bicycle trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway and points north. The itinerary is pretty wide open at this point. I am good for as long as two weeks. My son wants to continue on his own all the way to New Jersey. At least I talked him out of riding across country by himself. He is riding my 1977 Fuji 12 speed that I used for a 30 day solo tour of New England and Nova Scotia in 1980, so there is precedent. We have been accumulating equipment for the past 2 weeks, panniers, racks, tires, tubes, lights, tent, sleeping bag (for me) and we are pretty much packed and ready to go tomorrow morning. There will be a combination of hotels and camping. see ya!

When am I going to get a chance to do something like this again? :D

Good for you! May all your travels be downhill! I don’t want to do a bike trip but I would love to take two weeks or more and travel around a foreign country with my daughter when she is finally out of school. Make sure and report back about your adventure.

It sounds great! Have a blast, and stay safe! It should be a trip of a lifetime for both of you!

Wonderful! My husband has taken a number of bike trips. What a great thing to do with your son.

You guys should blog about it along the way. It would be fun to read the different perspectives.

funny you should mention that… I did start a blog, and just now figured out how to post to it from my cellphone. So I might actually update this from the road. Of course the terms of service do not permit links to such things…
