Because I am a freshman, my advisor made my schedule, and I realized I am enrolled me in a science class without its lab. Science is a weak point for me, and I will eventually have to take eight credits (two science classes and their labs). As my schedule stands, I would have to drop a class to pick up a lab. I spoke to the school and they said that I could take the lab at any time, but from speaking with other students I have learned that it is almost unheard of to take a lab seperately from the science and that it will be a challenge. What would you do in this situation? Drop a class (my fitness requirement) and add the lab, or take the lab at another time?

Drop the fitness requirement and add the lab.

^^What she suggests. If you dislike science, chances are you won’t remember most of what you did in that class next semester, so it’s better to just take the lab and that class together so the lab can reinforce what you’re learning in that class.

If you don’t want to take the lab, its not a big deal to take them separate semesters. Take the class you want… because it doesn’t look bad to take it separately and truthfully, labs are damn easy.

i think lab is essential as part of your learning process, not to mention it helps you understand the concepts and some test questions might be based on lab experiments.

i mean, it doesn’t sound like you’re taking anything like organic chemistry or whatever if you hate science and are just taking the course to fulfill a requirement. i took intro to astronomy + lab and the lab was a total joke (i got an A with basically no effort at all, and i am NOT a brilliant scientist by any means–i had never even written a lab report before). the two classes were barely even related to each other and it wasn’t necessary to take them both at the same time to do well.
i can understand the necessity of taking both at the same time if you’re taking a hardcore weed-out class for chem or bio majors, but if you’re signed up for rocks for jocks or something, it probably won’t matter.

What class are you talking about?

My chem lab pretty much required no previous knowledge and the test questions about the labs were done in lab and not on the lecture’s test, but it might differ by schools. Some people do do it and it’s fine, but it kinda depends on some stuff. Since science is your weak point, you probably should take it now.

Have the opposite situation. Got out of the class due to AP credit, but had no HS lab portfolio so am having to take the lab without the class.

I took chem 2 without the lab. It was fine.
