Is it acceptable to take the spring semester of my freshman year off?
Unfortunately, some things have been going on in my life that have had a pretty serious impact on my motivation as well as morale. Earlier in the semester, I was wrongfully held responsible for an incident that occurred in our dorm. Long story short, I was placed on university probation and was also given two “strikes” on my housing record. One more offense would mean that my housing contract would be terminated with no possibility of a refund (thousands of dollars). To top it off, I was diagnosed with Mononucleosis a week ago. I plan on finishing this semester off with the best grades possible. However, due to the circumstances previously stated, I doubt whether I should stay at this school. My school has pretty strict policies involving partying and drinking in the dorms. Since getting into trouble, I have lost all interest in partying. Not to mention, I medically cannot partake due to my mono. Since my friends aren’t the most “straight arrow” type of people, I’m worried that eventually I will be caught up in another bad situation. At our school, if I was in a room where other people had been drinking, even if I was sober, I would still be held just as responsible as everyone else.
I told my parents about this idea and they are understanding and said that they would support me with whatever decision I end up making. If I do indeed end up withdrawing after first semester, I plan on making the most of it. I am currently in talks with a volunteer organization in which I could spend a few months overseas. Could I take classes at a local college to earn some credits this summer?
Thanks all.
If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.
