Hi. I’ve been reading non-stop and thought I would take the time to check in with you all during what must be an anxious period of waiting and wondering.

Here’s what you should know:

1) Your parents love you. They want the best for you. Your hearts would swell with pride if you could read all the beautiful things they’ve written about you in their Parent Statements. They will continue to love you, no matter what happens on March 10.

2) Your teachers are amazing. They’ve taken time out of their busy schedules to write on your behalf. Nowhere in their job descriptions does it say they have to write recommendations for boarding schools, so that those same boarding schools can scoop up their very best students. Where’s the reward in that? You would cry if you could read all the wonderful things they’ve written about you in their letters of recommendation. Please thank your teachers for writing on your behalf, no matter what happens on March 10.

3) If you don’t get in, it doesn’t mean you did something wrong. You’re not dumb. You’re not a bad person. You are smart and you are talented and you are good. It just means that we have so many truly outstanding students from which to choose, we just can’t take all of you. We wish we could.

Thank you for applying. I wish you all the best of luck.

Thank you for the perspective and kind words. I have a question about the applicant pool growth in recent years. Has the growth been driven primarily by international or by broader awareness among domestic students of the BS opportunity? Thanks!

Hogwarts is up, as are several other of what you guys consider the “big” schools; our increase is in both domestic and international applicants.

Thanks GemmaV!
I had 2 questions,
Approximatly, how many applicants apply for 9th grade at Hogwarts?
Also, how much do you weigh on SSAT scores at Hogwarts?

This year’s stats:
3000 at Exeter
1900 at SPS

And you can always check their websites. There’s no point in asking a school’s number of applicants if we don’t know Hogwarts’s size (which is meant to be a secret).

Winterset said " Looks like it will be another record year for applications. Completed apps are up 14%. And recall that last year the acceptance ratio was 15%. This year there will be fewer spots and there are 1,896 applications. So the acceptance rate will drop assuming the yield stays the same. " According to the SPS website, they got 1306 applications last year. A 14% increase would be 1488 applications. Last year they admitted 16% of 1306 or 208 students. If they were to accept say 200 students out of the 1488, the acceptance rate would hit an all time low of about 13.5%. I think Winterset made an error but if there are indeed 1896 applications; that’s a 45% increase in applications. If they were to accept 200 kids of the 1896 applications, that would be a 10.5% acceptance rate. Either way the acceptance rate goes down.
