Taking a "variable unit" class - What?

I'm a Fall transfer, and I'm interested in taking two IEOR classes, Web Design and Mobile Apps. However, they both mention that you can take it for 1 or 2 units. What does this mean? Just that, it affects your grade either more or less? Graded differently?

I know in the Computer Science 9 series, you can take them for 1 to 4 units. I got the impression that if you wanted to learn slowly, take one (as in, less homework?) and you can "build up" to 4 units if you had the time. So, is it the same way for these IEOR classes, and if so, how does it work?

Yes, basically when there are variable units, some of the work is only required for those seeking more unit credit.

Your transcript will show the class name, the grade you earned, and the number of units you selected when you registered, once you have completed that course.
