Taking AP Physics C without PAP... bad idea?

I wanted to take AP chem, and I am not particularly in love with the sciences… so I did not take PAP Physics like the other juniors. It’s now that time of the year of picking out lovely classes, and I really really do not want to take the PAP course… because of various reasons.

I decided to take Physics C solely on the fact that in the course requirements, Physics B said that PAP Physics was a requirement while Physics C only said that it was highly recommended. (I’m in Calc BC next year so I should be fine in the math aspect.)

So before I put this down in permanent ink… Would it be a bad idea to just plunge into this course with the most recent physics experience being IPC in eighth grade?

(It’d be nice if someone could delineate the differences between Physics B and C)

What’s IPC and PAP?

IPC is integrated physics and chemistry. Basic (?) middle school science…
PAP is pre-AP hahaha or, honors as some people call them.

Are you good at math? As long as you are fairly advanced in it, you should be fine in AP Physics C without any prior physics knowledge. I would know; AP Physics C Mechanics is my first physics class, but I’ve always been pretty good at math, so the concepts have come relatively easy.

I thought I was good at math… I thought I was good at science. Then came AP physics C. xD puggly123, can I have your brain? physics is so hard for me, my grade is only living because of AP style curves I took physics honors which was not bad of a class(got an A) but AP physics C… ugh… but I think it doesn’t matter if you took pre-ap/honors because if you’re like me, you’d forget it by next year. xD I took AP chemistry last year… It was much easier than physics(or at least to me) but still hard. I scraped a 3 on the AP exam. For physics… I really hope I pass but I am not sure if that is possible.

And Physics B and C are about the same thing except C goes in depth with some calculus involved. I think… our teacher usually uses the same m/c tests for both classes but switches up frq for more calculus for us.

I took AP physics C without any sort of real physics background… only the intro class in 8th grade and it was fine… I was taking Calc AB simultaneously so the math was challenging but math is my forte so I managed to work my way through it and got a 5 on the exam. It is definitely possible without any sort of prior knowledge in physics but I would just be sure that you are strong in math and are willing to spend some extra time making sure you truly understand the concepts.

How did you do it? Please tell me, i have a decent backround but with the test in only 2 months, i’m really nervous. I practically have to self study as i have a bad teacher. I’m willing to put a lot of time into it if i can get some true teaching material as i have a hard time applying the concepts

My son is taking Physics c with no prior physcics. He did take AP chem and ap Calculus BC last year. In the beginning of the course, he was not doing as well as he wanted to but did get an A last Semester. It is definitely easier for the students who took a prior physics class but it is doable if you are good at science and math. When you get to the second semester (E and M), everyone is on an equal playing field.
