Taking AP Tests During the Summer

I’d like to self study for some tests over the summer, and then take them before school starts.

How would I do that?

you can’t, the tests are only in may.

What celebrian said. AP tests are administrated during May only, sorry.

Too bad because I would have liked to do the same, but I already knew the May thing.

Like everyone else said, you can’t take AP tests at any time other than May. You could, however, take whatever class you want at a local community college or through a distance education service, which would grant credit that would transfer to quite a few colleges (I’m guessing that most state schools and non-top-50 or 100 colleges would accept transfer credit from an established university/college)

depends on the class too. Arabic IV won’t transfer if the college you’re going to attend doesn’t even have middle eastern langauges

Is that where people take college courses, community college? You can’t go to a real college?

no, where you take a college class, while a hs student, and the credit transfers over to the college you’ll be attending

That’s what I meant. I left out that part. While a high school student, I can’t take like just one college course at a real university, it’s gotta be community college?

If the “real” university allows guest/non-degree-seeking students to register, then I guess you can do that. (UMichigan and UColorado allow HS Students to enroll concurrently, for instance)

yes, I have many friends who are taking classes at ohio state, not just the cc

The college I’m nearest to is Southern Methodist University, would I be allowed to take a course in science there? Where do I find this stuff out?

it’s called pseo here (post secondary enrollment option) and you get both college and hs credit. Ask your hs or call SMU to find out.

Yes, some “real” universities will allow HS students to take courses there, even some of the elite schools. I’ve heard of HS students taking courses at Princeton and MIT.

HS Students taking courses at Princeton and MIT during the fall? Interesting. I think I heared of some, but they were just taking it as part of a science program or something during the summer.

Princeton, MIT, I doubt I could do courses there. I bet I could get into SMU for one though. Do you have to actually go through the whole application process in order to do this?

I am not sure, but I recall that at UMichigan, you submit your application (an easy one) and you get your decision after 2 weeks or so.

Ya, I think one of the parents on the Parent’s Forum has a son taking classes at MIT.

TexasMathWhiz, you (or your counselor) should call either the Admissions Office or the Continuing Education department at SMU for exactly what to do. Since you won’t be a full time, official student, you probably won’t have to go through the formal admissions process.

Oh, well I’ll look into it. I’ll probably do this stuff summer of my junior year because I can’t burn out right now. Besides I’m going back to Cali on vacation and I’m gonna have to leave early to get to the Brown U. summer program. I’d say that’s enough for this summer. Maybe I could find something to do at UCSD.
