Taking back a rec request

Is there any polite way to tell a teacher you’ve already asked for a rec that he or she no longer needs to write it? I’m starting to have reservations about this one teacher that I asked.

Tell the teacher you didn’t realize you only needed 2 and a counselor (you thought 3 meant 3 teachers)…that the other 2 already wrote them, Go with your gut feeling.

I’m also in a similar situation… too bad I asked this teacher back before summer vacation, so I’m afraid of taking my request back…

Is there any way that you can have 3 teacher recommendations and then send 2 of them to the schools without the other teacher being notified that his/her recommendation was not sent? Or does CommonApp automatically notify the teachers to which colleges their recommendations were sent?

Do not do that! It is a waste of the teacher’s value time what they write will not count! They probably have not started writing your letters yet - so you still have plenty of time to politely tell them. I like kurz’s idea.
