Most of the schools that I’m applying to require two SAT Subject Tests or recommend that applicants take subject tests. Does taking more than the required number of tests improve one’s admission chances, assuming that each score earned is 780+?

It can’t hurt in any way if colleges see that you got near perfect scores on three different subject tests. It would obviously help, but I’m pretty sure essays/EC’s/grades and other things are equally or more important.

Yeah, I don’t want to waste time and money taking tests that won’t really enhance my application. I really don’t know how many I should take, though! Should I keep to the minimum requirement or take up to six tests? Will six high scores have more of an impact on my application than just two?

I’m planning to apply to some highly competitive and selective universities, if that makes a difference.

If a school requires two, then just go with three. I remember that one college representative who came to my school said this: Don’t make standardized testing an extracurricular. With that said, if you send in six scores, it won’t look good. Whether the scores are high or not doesn’t really matter; six tests is too excessive. Admissions officials will think that you probably thought the subject tests to be way more important than they really are. As you said, it would be a waste of time and money anyway, and the most selective universities put more emphasis on your personal activities and qualities that you demonstrate through the essays.

does anyone know if I can take another SAT subject test if I apply to my schools ED? do I have time to take it again…maybe in December or something?

^I’m not doing ED, but I know that for most schools, you can submit scores taken in January (Deadline: Jan 1). You just have to mention it somewhere in your application that you’ll be sending in scores later.
