I was wondering if it would effect your transcript to get into a UC (University of california) school if you take reg. english throughout the 4 yrs of HS, instead of taking honors/AP.

I’m currently a sophomore taking honors and ap classes (world history, pre-cal, english.) I took 3 honors classes in my freshmen year, and plan to take more honors/ap classes in the future. I have been getting good good grats all A’s except english which i am struggling in.

It depends just how badly you are doing in Honors English and how well you think you might do in regular. Many schools gross up the honors courses in computing your gpa. (E.g., a B in AP English counts as 3.33, i.e., like a B+ in regular English.) So, if you think you will only do marginally better, it may not make a difference and the Honors looks better on your record. However, if it is the difference between an A and a B-, and you are in other honors/ap courses, then you might benefit by the A more than the honors. You should check with your school to see if they do adjust for ap/honors-boarding schools often do not. You should also discuss this issue with your school’s college advisor.
