I go to a community college and I was told by my counselor that in order to transfer to a UC for pre med I have to take major prep courses at the cc. He calculated how long I would be at the cc taking the major prep courses and he said it would be until 2018! Do I really have to take all the math and science prep courses to prepare for UC pre med or can I just finish the general ed courses and take all the math and science courses when I transfer? I don’t want to be at the cc for four more years!

There is no ‘pre med’ major at any UC. The classes you need to transfer completely depends on what major you want to transfer into. If it is a hard science like bio or chem, you will need to take all of the prerequisites for that major. ALWAYS be checking assist.org, since it updates yearly and you’ll want to stay on top of all the requirements

Med school does not car where you take your prerequisites. So you could transfer as a different major as long as you complete the med school requirements. It’s completely up to how you want to plan your units.
