hey-
if a syllabus says no make up tests will be given without the written consent of the dean of the students, does this appyl if you take it early. im tryin to get home for a weekend, and i have a test late friday afternoon—not an final exam, just a normal test. If I talk to the prof in advance do they normally let you take it in advance, like the day before or something without getting like written consent.

I would suggest going to his office hours as soon as possible and asking if you can take the exam early. In my experience, professors are willing to work with their students about things like this, but you should ask sooner rather than later.

Depends on both the professor and the reason why you need to get home. As someone said, go to OH or talk to the teacher after class. It doesn’t hurt to try.

There’s no reason not to at least ask the Professor about his policy. The worst he can tell you is that you have to take it during the normal class hour.

If you just want to go home to visit people he’ll probably say no (although you can ask.) If you’re going to a wedding/funeral/etc. more will be more likely to say yes.

The answer it all depends. Problem or resistance can come from the issue of test security. And I guarantee you, the prof. will not want to make up a special test just for you unless there is a special reason – I am not sure a trip home by itself is it. Most will make adjust for emergencies.

The only time I’ve had tests rescheduled is when I had to travel with the marching band. Even then, most of the Profs hated to do it, but they had no choice. One even had us take take the test on the trip.
