Taking the SAT II Language Test as a Native Speaker

Does my SAT II Spanish score count as one of the two subject tests that are required by some schools such as the Ivy’s even if I’m a native speaker? Thank you.

Will it count? Yes. Will it help your application? IMO, that depends. If you’re a native speaker and have been taking HS Spanish courses to pick up grammar, etc. that you didn’t learn at home, then that’s more valid than if you just took the test to easily fulfill the SAT II requirement without coursework. Particularly in applying to selective colleges, I think it would strengthen your application more to fulfill the requirement with a different test that demonstrates the knowledge you attained after a year of dedicated study.

Again, JMO based on the belief that colleges want to see that you’re challenging yourself.

Thank you for the quick and great response entomom!

You’re welcome, if you haven’t already, take a look at the Hispanic Students subforum, under College Admissions/Specialty Topics. The Resources sticky thread has lots of valuable information about scholarships, diversity weekends, etc.

I will definitely look into the Hispanic subforum. Thank you for the valuable information once again. I was wondering if you could look at my other post and give me your opinion on my situation and what I need to do or not do to improve my chances at top schools since I know you’re very knowledgeable when it comes to URM’s. Thank you
