I took the December SAT, scoring a 2010. My mom believes that because of the new score choice policy, and my slightly disappointing score, that I should retake in January just for the hell of things. Would this be smart? I know I can improve my score, but I’m afraid that I might have to take the SAT 4 times in total (spring and october).

Take it if you believe that you can improve. But its not that probable that you will get a significant boost in a short time frame. Just keep in mind that there are certain colleges that still require you to choose the option that sends in all of your test scores.

I called the College board on this issue; Score Choice applies retroactively, therefore, it will apply to your December test!
