Taking the SAT with my mom!

Oh and thanks for the suggestion! I’m gonna go look it up!!!

That’s awesome! I’ll be taking Math and Physics as well (and Literature too…)
I’m much better at Math than I am at Physics (my teacher is just incompetent)
My most recent score (March SAT) was:
CR 700
M 720
W 620
My superscore is a tad bit higher since I’ve taken it more than once already.
I also took SAT Chem last year and managed a 720…pretty average because my percentile was 67?
I don’t know what to expect come May…I procrastinate too much.
How is your SAT score? What is your goal?

My former math teacher takes it every year.

Always gets a 2400.

The youngest you can take it at is 7th grade. I did it.

Wow ! Your math teacher should write an SAT prep book.

He’s a tutor.

Pretty impressive…so does his score count on those reports that say how many people got a 2400 on the SAT in a particular year?

My Physics teacher is awesome haha she’s like so clueless and Physics is her life! Maybe that’s one reason I like it a lot. The only way I’d be able to do an English SAT II is if I fix my reading! And yeah, I could definitely see the subject tests being more competitive, but still that’s a great score. You’re gonna have like a ton of them to send in!!! So your March one was…2040? Mine was a 2030 (760 M 690 W 580 CR) - only time taken. My goal is 2200!

You’ll definitely achieve your goal! Just study and practice over the summer!
Do you have any tips for writing?

I wish my physics teacher was cool…he’s really not and apparently our ap class has finished the curriculum and we really don’t know anything…oh well. haha.

Hahaha! You’re in AP? Do you think I’ll be able to take the test after just Honors? And umm, well the part of writing I’m good at is grammar, so know that I guess but I’m definitely no expert on SAT writing! The vocab questions are definitely what screwed up my score, so I guess you and I both need to study the dictionary? :)

I haven’t taken it yet with my son (he takes it next year) – but Ive taken it twice in 2011 (Jan. and March) – first time since 1982 - because I got obsessed with it and think it’s fun (call me crazy).

I’m home on this Sat. night trying to figure out the TI-89 Calculator. They’re allowed, right? Is the SAT software a special download for it?

How funny…that’s me (i.e. the mom who’s taking the SATs). For some strange reason, I find it fun. Very weird, I know…though I do know other middle aged moms who agree with me.

What was your score?

@asinine16: No… charts such as <a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools; include only the scores of “college-bound seniors” in the totals.

In October, I took the SAT in the same room as my brother (he’s a senior in high school). I can’t imagine how nerve-wracking it was for him. He ended up doing pretty well, though (aside from forgetting to complete one of the reading comp passages… whoops).

The Ti-89 calculators are allowed.
I was not aware that there was SAT software, though…

Have to admit that they’re very useful even without.

The 89s are not allowed on the test… Or any version after it

^No, the TI-89 is OK, though (IMO) unnecessary for the SAT. See [this link for the official calculator rules](SAT Calculator Policy – SAT Suite | College Board). The TI-89 doesn’t fall under any of the disallowed categories. I think the TI Nspire would be allowed as well, although I suppose you could argue it is getting close to a “hand-held minicomputer”.

Oh. I think collegeboard has an actual list of calculators that are not allowed.

The 89 and Nspire aren’t allowed on the ACT, so I thought it’d be the same for both.

This is an interesting thread. If I take the SAT (I’m a mom  ) my math would be close to (if not exactly) 800 and my CR would most likely be lower than that of my 12 year old daughter.
I think your mom is great! no matter what her score is.

Lol my mom was reading this thread and she felt so relieved that other moms take the test as well. I hope she does not feel too embarrassed when she walks into a room full of high school students exchanging confused looks. Haha, I hope she passes !
