Taking the SAT with my mom!

Yup
It’s official, my mom and I have signed up for May SAT testing. This will be fun.
My mom just needs to get over 540 on Critical Reading to get her English Requirement for this university she’s getting her “second” masters degree in. Any advice for her? We’re probably going to take a practice test this weekend ! LOL so awkward.

you better do better

Hahahaha, adults can take it? For admittance to grad programs??

I better, or else my mom would never stop talking about how she creamed me LOL
But I will beat her

And yes! Surprisingly enough, adults can take the SAT! (Instead of the TOEFL I believe)

wow 540cr for masters …standards sure have dropped…sigh

Adults are definitely allowed to take it (I mean, what does CB have to lose?). I think buffalowizard (Dartmouth '12, I think) did an experiment on the March 2011 SAT; there’s a thread in the SAT Prep Forum. One of my friends mentioned to me a site called Perfect Score Project to me where a mom is blogging about trying to get a perfect SAT score.

I figure I’ll be going into the tutoring business during college (if not senior year) and past that (at least part-time), so I’m definitely glad adults can take the SAT.

I’m taking the May one too!!!

540 is the cutoff for people who are looking for a graduate degree and in which English is not their first language…the TOEFL testing is another option.

My mom did have to make a collegeboard account though…but yeah adults can take it and even 7th graders too ! So yeah. It’s just going to be weird having my mom in that room filled with a bunch of high school students and such.

Oh and good luck liv4physicz !

Thanks asinine!!! And yeah that’d be really weird. Hahaha, if my mom took the SAT…It wouldn’t be pretty…

LOLLL I know! Imagine she tries to cheat off of me…wow

Wow, I give your mom a lot of credit for taking the test. I am not sure I could get through the math!

The math is the easiest!

asi9, think about how embarrassing for her that’s gonna be when you both get back your results! haha :)

I agree with ATLMOM13 because she has not been in school for a long time and does not remember being comfortable with math! So math will be a challenge but she’s only focused on the critical reading score, which is the only requirement.

LOL liv4physicz! It probably will be pretty embarrassing. How are you prepping for May? :)

LOL if you catch your mom copying, just raise your hand, and have her thrown out. LOL J/K.

Hmmm well I have this like computer game that teaches you vocab words, so that should help the writing section, and then I guess for reading I’ll have to take a ton of practice tests and figure out some fool-proof strategy that gets me above a 580 this time? (I suck at standardized test reading :frowning: )

What are you doing??? Don’t you already have some sorta like amazing score though? Hahah

LOL you guys are funny

Hey! You should try Grockit SAT prep, it’s this free thing online and it’s pretty helpful (search on google). Trust me, I was in your same situation. I got a 58 on the psat critical reading and I started grockit and it helped to raise that score. I also suggest reading ! That actually helps believe it or not ! LOL

Idk I’m still concerned…I know I should not fret about my score. But I have to improve writing, and try again for cr, I suppose. I’ll be taking it in October again…I have to do everything I can to optimize my score. Do you really like physics, haha? I’ll be taking the subject test in june ! :/

lol! thats super funny/ cool.
good luck with it!

Haha I mean I do (plan on going into engineering), but my username’s primarily meant to be a satire of some CC users  And me too for the subject test! And Math II! Are you a junior? What’s your current SAT score?
