While I understand that the RC has a two year live in requirement, would it be possible to start a second language sequence after my sophomore year? It would be ideal for me to do two years of French then two years of German, but I don’t know if this is possible/ feasible. While I’m very much undecided on a major, right now I know that I would love to at least be proficient in these two languages, and eventually fluent. I’m thinking of possibly transferring to A&D from LS&A after I develop more of a portfolio, whether it be the BA, BFA or even the minor.

If I am not allowed to do two RC language sequences, would it be possible to gain proficiency in a new language in two years if I’m not in intensive courses?

I got a bit off topic there but would like to paint a better picture of what I was trying to accomplish. Thanks!

I can’t answer your question but I know the RC program coordinator can – and she’s most accommodating. So two thoughts – #1. Just send her an email. and #2 - A&D is great, but RC has some awesome fine arts options as well, often with the same profs. RC would be a good fit for you by the sounds of it – you won’t find a more language-intensive environment in which to become multilingual.
Best wishes for a great start next year!

I think you can, as long as you don’t try to do both languages at the same time…they are intensive and can take up as many as 9 credits a semester. As suggested above, you may want to call them to discuss your idea…they are very helpful.

By the way, the German RC program is absolutely wonderful! I don’t think words could describe how wonderful those profs are and the amazing opportunities available to students. And yes, the RC arts courses are really quite good.
