<p>I’m guessing it has to do with how well you perform in extra curricular activities. For example, if you are applying trying to get an athletic scholarship, hopefully you have the ability to perform well. If you’re applying for a position in the music department (which is very selective), you need “talent/ability.”</p>
<p>I don’t think you should really worry about this though, unless you’re applying to very specific programs that need auditions or try outs.</p>
<p>I’m guessing talent/ability probably has to do with direct admission into competitive departments like CSE and BioE. Or maybe talent/ability can make up for lower test scores or GPA.</p>
