wow, unless my parents built a dorm and a library this was not going to happen to me!

can you imagine this?
What an utter waste of time. Wheaton must have too many employees w not enough to do.
Is this a new level of “stalker” school?
but once you get in and attend they will ignore you when you need help.
Creepy. I can’t even imagine how awkward this would be.
I’m a poster from long ago, but I can’t remember any of my log-in info
So I thought I’d re-register so that I can respond, since I am a parent of 3 who are all out of college now (not Wheaton), and I work at Wheaton College.
So sorry you feel this is stalker-ish and creepy and a waste of time; we at Wheaton are excited about welcoming our accepted students! And as a small, regional school, in what can be an impersonal and stressful college application process, we just feel it’s a nice thing to do for some of our local applicants.
zobroward, sorry about your experience. That doesn’t sound like our culture, but I respect and regret that you (or your child) had a different outcome.
Sounds like they are desperate to get kids to enroll.
I think it might be exciting if it’s your #1 school, but VERY awkward if its lower on your list or you have lost interest since applying.
I find this kind of creepy. I don’t think my kids would have liked that one bit.
I think it is sweet
I agree that it could be awkward or weird, but I believe the recipients of this attention aren’t just picked randomly. I haven’t participated yet, but I think it’s geared towards students who have shown extra interest.
I thought I read about Georgia Tech doing something similar (for a small group of local students)?
I think it’s nice.
My kids would love something like that. S2 got a phone call last night from Azusa Pacific, better than the postcards that get immediately recycled.
nina reilly-- not sure why you think
“zobroward, sorry about your experience. That doesn’t sound like our culture, but I respect and regret that you (or your child) had a different outcome.”
I have zero experience with the school or the concept. not sure how got that from my post!
I simply posted the story because I found it interesting.
oh, sorry, I was responding to your post #3. Sounded like you had attended Wheaton and had a bad experience. No harm, no foul!
Yes Georgia Tech does do that for some students. I am not sure how they pick which ones but it’s something that the kids think is cool.
I wonder how cool the AOs would find it if applicants were showing up at their homes or even their offices to drop off applications in person, just to show how very much they want to attend?
I’d be pretty horrified if that happened to me. I’m just very shy and would hate that kind of attention.
USC has done this for a few years as well. I think it’s sweet.
Not sure what my kids would’ve thought. USC didn’t give them personal acceptances.
