If this goes to trial – and that’s a very big if – I hope the protection does some time-motion investigation. I’d like to see if it’s even possible for someone to shout “Show me your hands! Show me your hands! Show me your hands!” AND for the subject to comprehend and comply – all within 2-3 seconds.

Mass media strikes again.

And a 10 year old shot his grandma dead because she wouldn’t let him play video games. So, they gave him back to his parents, who were dumping him on grandma regularly, like that would help the little murderer.

Curious about the manufacturer of the toy gun, could they be held liable at all? What is the point of an identifying characteristic that makes it clear it is a toy, if you can just take it off?

And by the way, the cop who put the chokehold on Eric Garner was previously the subject of a NYPD financial settlement where two guys had been strip searched, bare nekkid, on a public street. You’d think, just like with bad teachers, there would be a point where someone gets a desk job, at least.

The two subhuman slime who shot this 12-year-old in cold blood two seconds after they pulled up to the playground where he was sitting on swing then proceeded to leave his dying body in the snow, while they tackled his sister who ran out to help him. They handcuffed her and threw her in a police car, but they still didn’t bother to render any medical assistance to the dying child. He was pronounced dead nine hours later.
Police always lie about these incidents. Unfortunately for these two despicable worms and the other loathsome officers who came to the scene after the shooting, there’s video. Video of the murder, video of tackling his sister, video of them not rendering medical assistance to the little boy they had just shot. Way to go, Cleveland police. Serve and protect.
I saw that yesterday too - appalling! I can’t imagine being the sister handcuffed there in the car knowing that my brother was laying there dying on the other side of the door. It is amazingly coldblooded.
This is so horrible…that poor girl. And for all we know Tamir might have survived if he had been given aid.
Is it any wonder why some people distrust the police?
H and I were just talking about this last night and what story the cops would have come up with if there wasn’t video.
This video is beyond shocking. No wonder the Cleveland PD didn’t want it released.
The mom, who was also nearby, has said that the police told her if she tried to get to her child she would be handcuffed and tossed in the police car along with the sister.Truly appalling.
There’s a special place in hell for cops who shoot a kid, and then prevent his mother from getting to her dying child.
I wish there were . . .
Makes me cry. )-: And…crickets from the usual posters.
This has been noted before, but let’s not forget: (quoted from the linked article)
What the hell was this guy doing on a police force?
I don’t think there are long lines of applicants these days.
Not going to hold my breath based on the result of the Eric Garner indictment and other videotaped cases which ended up resulting in no indictments and local DA conflicting needs between prosecuting cases and working with the local police.
The difference is that Cleveland PD is now under federal management, due to years of this kind of behavior. I think there’s more hope of an indictment here than in the Brown and Garner cases.
As always, a beautiful piece by Charles Blow.
According to the Blow piece, the police officers NEVER offered medical aid. It was an FBI agent who was in the area who finally came to the aid of Tamir. None of those police officers should ever work one more day as a cop.
They belong in jail, never mind not working as policemen ever again.
The police who came to the scene after the shot didn’t commit a crime. However, failing to render aid to a dying child is appalling misconduct that should be a firing offense.
Well there you have it, no indictment. My state is an embarrassment , John Crawford and Tamir Rice, should’ve been no brainers.
Ohio is an open carry state. I guess that means it’s an open carry state for whites, but not for blacks? Tamir Rice was carrying a toy gun, of course, but even if he had been carrying a real gun, he had the right to do it if he were an adult as the police claim they believed.
@“Cardinal Fang” yes, it is open carry. That’s what’s so crazy about both of these cases. The officer thought Tamir was much older, so following that line of reasoning he was able to openly carry. the same thing with John Crawford, he had a toy gun in walmart, cops came in, shot first, questions later.
Both times, a white male deemed them to be threats, and the cops just took their word, even though this is an open carry state. I will say in Tamir’s case, the caller said he thought it was a toy gun, though that wasn’t relayed to the cops. Yet folks wonder why we are protesting.
