My son really wants to attend UT business school- he is current 10th grader but average student with gpa and psat score. He’s a hard worker, and in a college prep Highschool with ADHD and LD.
Thinking ahead, does anyone know this college well and what can help boost his chances?
You are full pay - that will help. But his stats are not where they need to be but he has time:
Average SAT: 1,230 est. | Average GPA: 3.6 (on a 4.0 unweighted scale)
Given his learning disabilities (I didn’t see that in the other thread), maybe you should find schools that focus in this area - for midsize, Marist for example. I would find a school that can support, not one that sounds good on paper.
Tampa was the first school my daughter removed. Why? In the student chat, it was all about partying, not about academics. That’s consistent with its reputation. I actually know an adjunct there.
In the end, Tampa is like other schools - there’s no gaming - you get good stats, participate out of class, and hope. It’s become popular so it’s a tough in. But most of their professors are adjuncts, so they work too vs. this being their only job. Right now, they have job listings for over 200 adjuncts.
He’s in 10th grade - no need to have a dream and no need to panic. There are schools out there but you might focus on support vs. they sound great. As I noted on the other, find the right type of school. His likes and desires will change.
Schools known for LD support that might work - Marist and Hofstra (not in your zone), Marshall (which is in your desired area), and West Virginia Wesleyan.
Please make sure before you choose any school you ensure your son’s needs will be met.
