TAMS

Hi, I’m extremely interested in the TAMS (Texas Academy of Math and Science) early college program for high school junior/seniors at UNT in Denton, Texas. I want to major in computer programming. Is Tams right for me?

TAMS students do not select majors while at TAMS. Also, if you want to take electives outside the standard curriculum you will have to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. If you can maintain that, you should be able to take some CS electives.

In addition, the core curriculum at TAMS is mostly made up of classes you would have to take as a CS major anyway, so it should be fine preparation. You may have an easier time transferring into the major at another school if you at least take some introductory CS electives, though.

I have taken computer science 1 at Liberty high school last year. This year I am taking AP computer science. I am hoping to take Advanced computer science next year at TAMS if I can.
