TAMU 2028 Brown Foundation Scholarship

Thank you! We got the sense that they are still going through the applications. Their Brown scholar red carpet events start early March. So I believe they will go through the interviews at least through end of Jan if not further. They also said that there is not really set number of candidates they award it to and it really depends on how good they think their application pool is. So the doors are still open! They are also very good at answering emails! Wishing you the best!

Thank you!

Thank you so much! And congratulations again, I’m so happy for you!

I haven’t heard back from anyone yet about an interview. Being well into January, I’m assuming that they’re no longer extending interviews? Does anyone know when specifically they stop contacting people?

I have heard that they interview as late as February, and that requests may still go out at least into January if not further. If anyone else has more specific information on this year’s last interview request date, I would love to know as I am also still anxiously waiting!

Does anyone happen to have any more information on the interview process or final decisions? It’s starting to get late in the process and still nothing :frowning:

Hi All,

My DS is a NMSF, has been accepted to TAMU Engineering, and filled out the scholarship portion of the TAMU application. We were told by an admissions officer that all NMSF applicants who filled out the scholarship portion of the application would be considered. However, we were not given a timeline or any dates and have not heard anything. DS was just accepted EA OOS to Georgia Tech on Friday, but I think would rather attend A &M if he receives Brown–he like A &M more and the $$ situation would obviously be a lot better at A&M. However, nothing from Brown yet.

We also asked about the potential of updating applications with new information about things that had not occurred by the time DS submitted his original application. We were told to go to the Brown Foundation website and to use the “Contact” button on the website to send a message. DS sent a message last week, but has not received a response. He followed up today. If he doesn’t at least receive an acknowledgment that they received his message from last week, I think we will reach back out to the person at TAMU who is listed as their Brown Scholarship person to check in again. I guess anyone who wants to could try the contact button as well.

I wish I knew more, and if anyone else has any info, please share. Oh and I will say DS did not meet the priority deadline for the Brown Scholarship, but again, we were told he would still be considered. So perhaps they are still reviewing files, setting up interviews, etc. Or perhaps he is not being invited for an interview. Will try to update when we know more.

Howdy everyone! I just wanted to thank you all for the information you’ve provided, and apologize for not being here for a few days. I recently emailed Ms. Matthews to inquire as to the status of my application, and was told I will not be receiving an interview.

To everyone still waiting to receive an interview or hear back results about one, I wish you the best of luck! And to those who do receive the scholarship, I give you heartfelt congratulations.

Good Evening, Thanks for the reply and the update. Sorry to hear that you will not receive an interview. Keep your head up and keep pursuing success! My DS had an interview for a prestigious program at another school recently but then found out today that he is not a finalist. It’s tough but there are still plenty of paths to success. I’m still holding out a little hope for my DS for a Brown interview, but we haven’t heard anything, so that may not be a good sign. I do have a couple of questions. Who is Ms. Matthews? Does she work for the Brown Foundation? And if so, how would someone contact her? Thanks.

Good evening! Ms. Matthews does work for the Brown Foundation. Her email is not one that is publicly available, but she is someone who replied to me when I emailed the Brown contact information in the past, and she is also the one who reached out and requested my PSAT score sheet. Mrs. Smith, Mr. Brown’s wife, has also responded before. Has your DS gotten a request for a PSAT score sheet in the past from the Brown Foundation? My understanding is that is a sign you have moved to the next step of the process as they are looking for confirmation of NMSF status, but it does not mean you will be interviewed- they requested one from me in late October.

Thanks so much for the response. My son has not been contacted and has not received a response after using the contact button on the website as an admission officer instructed him to. He has reached out a couple of times over the last few weeks, so we are just trusting that his messages have been received. Did Ms. Matthews happen to mention if they were still looking at apps/interviewing by any chance?

Anyway, my son is a NMSF and should officially become a finalist this week. His PSAT scores would have made him a Semifinalist in any state, even the most competitive ones, so he would be happy to send those in if necessary. As I mentioned in an earlier post, he was accepted EA to Georgia Tech but liked Texas A&M better. However, since he is from out of state, we have four kids—one of them is adopted and has special needs—,and we are middle class, it will be tough financially for him to attend A &M without the Brown Foundation scholarship or some other scholarships. Same with Georgia Tech if he doesn’t get a scholarship there. The NMF package at A&M is certainly appreciated , but it doesn’t quite fully cover tuition, and then there’s room, board, personal expenses, transportation, fees, etc. We were really hoping that he might at least have the opportunity to interview, but at the end of the day, we are people of faith and believe all you can do is put your best foot forward and then trust the Lord. However, it would be nice to go ahead and know for sure one way or the other, so hopefully we will know something soon.

Unfortunately Ms. Matthews did not mention whether or not there will be more interview requests. I’m sorry that I can’t be of more help to anyone here. Rather than using the contact button on their website, I directly sent an email to the address listed (contact@brownfound.org), and have usually received a reply fairly quickly. I’m not sure if this will make any difference for you, but it may be worth trying.

You may already know this, but receiving the NMSF/NMF package qualifies you for in state tuition rates. I know that doesn’t cover everything, but it is certainly helpful. I would also advise looking for housing off-campus if you are not on a scholarship that requires you to be on campus, as (at least at A&M in my experience), many off campus options are both cheaper and nicer. Even if your son doesn’t have a car, the bus service connects many parts of campus as well as various apartments and grocery stores very well. I know this may not solve all problems, but I hope it can be useful to you. In my conversations with current students that I know, I have also been told that the expenses you listed (room, travel, meals, etc.) on A&M’s website are way overinflated, and that no one they know actually pays that much. Doing some research of your own may be helpful, as will applying to external scholarships that your son can use no matter what university he attends.

Good luck to you and your son! I hope that what I’ve mentioned here has been helpful.

Absolutely do NOT put down a deposit anywhere off campus, until :100: student will attend A&M.
There is NO getting out of off campus leases, you’ll be on the hook for 12 months.

Nothing beats living ON campus freshman year

Thanks so much! This is very helpful. I almost regret taking him to visit A & M because he ended up liking it so much more than I thought he would and so it is now one of his top schools, perhaps even The top one, and I would like him to be able to attend if at all possible. We assumed the numbers on the website were pretty accurate so hearing that we might be able to shave some off of those is good news. However, I do think that living on campus his first year would be preferable. Anyway, thanks so much and I’ll have him try the email address you mentioned and maybe we will receive a response. Thanks again and I’ll be sure to provide an update when and if we know more.

Good Evening, Thanks for the heads up on this. And I agree that living on campus as a freshman is ideal.

@Hobbd have your son start checking FinAid tab in Howdy; supposedly scholarship offers are starting to post.
NMSF automatically earn Presidents Endowed Scholarship, on top of NMSF offer.
Be sure student ‘accepts’ offers in Howdy, don’t just leave them sitting there.

Will do. Thanks for the info!

Are the Presidents Endowed scholarships already in the portal ? My son is NMSF ( the NMF list hasn’t come out yet) and he named TAMU as his school on it . The only scholarship he had yesterday was the opportunity scholarship listed

PES probably won’t be added for awhile. It is automatic tho, for NMSF.
I read somewhere scholarships will be posted even later this year, due to late FAFSA.

Not kidding, scholarships can get added at ANY time. Student needs to get into the habit of checking Howdy once a week, for sure from spring break on. ALL information goes to Howdy-MPE registration, Howdy NSC checklist, FinAid info, etc.
